My Baby's Legs Are Bowed

it's not hugely noticeable, but over the last few weeks I've noticed that his legs are a bit bowed.
He is 7 1/2 months now.
He stands on his own for about 10 seconds and he walks along furniture just fine.
I just don't remember when a baby's legs should straighten out.

this is something that I've just noticed... it isn't like his doctor has said he has a problem. I just wonder if I need to be concerned about it and if I should make a point to point it out to his pediatrician.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you, everyone, for your responses. I feel better and I think that I will mention it at his next well check in a few weeks. If it is something that could cause a problem, better to get it taken care of early. But it's probably nothing to be concerned about and I would rather be overly cautious than not attentive enough.

Both my boys were bow legged at that age. My oldest 'straightened up' around 11 months when he went from walking to running, my youngest had bowed legs until he was about 18 months... around that time we noticed his legs straigten up a big. Neither had any issues from the bowed legs, and neither of them does to this day.

My son also had bowed legs. His Ped was not concerned, said that they dont start to worry about it until they are two. No worries!!!!

Hi! My baby seems to have bow legs too. I think it's just part of how she is built:) If it is something that you are wondering about though I would ask your Dr, otherwise you are always going to wonder.
P.S. That is awesome that he is cruising and standing alone at 7 1/2! WOW!

My son's feet were very pigeon toed. Inherited from both his mother and father. Plus he has flat feet. It is something I did point our Dr. at his well baby check. The Dr. did refer us to a orthepedic specialist. He still is flat footed and pigeon toed and doing fine. I am hoping he will be a good runner although his arches may bother him later in life. A. J.

It's totally normal, but if you are nursing you want to make sure that you are giving your baby a supplement with vitamin D. A deficiency in vitamin D can cause bowed legs, and vitamin D taken by the mother does not transfer to the breast milk in great enough quantities. It is in infant formula, so if he's formula fed that should be enough. Once he's drinking fortified milk after age 1, a supplement is no longer necessary. As others said the bowed legs may not straighten out until around 2 years old.

I know I am a bit late on this but I thought I'd put my two cents in anyway. I had severely bowed legs when I was a baby and toddler. I had braces on my legs as a baby and then when I was about 4 or 5. My mom always talks about what a horrible experience it was for us. She said that I would cry something terrible whenever she put them on and I would get them stuck in the crib at night and be all twisted up. One night she couldn't get me out and she ended up taking the whole crib apart.

The 3rd doctor she consulted after the first two sets of braces told her that my legs would straighten on their own as I matured. He showed her a family of 7 children that had very bowed legs in babyhood and as they matured their legs straightened out. She never put me in braces again. My legs are straight and work just fine. (I am a little pigeon toed but I think it is unrelated to the bowed legs).

I am sure this will be the case for your child. I would still err on the side of caution though just to be safe.
