Neither of my children were walking at 9 months of age. My daughter was 12 months and my son didn't walk until 18 months! (I'm not sure either one was even crawling at 9 mos.) Now both are so fast I can hardly keep up with them! There is an average age for each milestone (sitting, crawling, walking), but every kid is different.

Definitely talk to your doctor about it. If your doctor isn't concerned about her not sitting up yet, then don't worry. But if there is something to be concerned about, your doctor will know what to look for.

9 1/2 months is not slow to walking. Most seem to walk around their first birthday. I know many children who were walking at 10 months and many others that were not waking until 14 months. Both groups are in the typical range. I would be more concenred about the sitting....she should have a 9 month well check, right? If I was you, I would bring your concerns up to your ped. for her/his feedback.

Don't worry too much - my best friend's kids didn't walk until they were 18 months! I'd be more concerned about her not sitting up. Have you talked to the pediatrician about that?

My daughter crawled at 8 months and walked at 13 months, and she is healthy and was fine and right on target developmentally. If you have concerns or just don't feel right about something, you can always check in with your doctor to put your mind at ease.

Since you said she's very active, I wouldn't worry about it. Also, if she's chubby (which is NOT a bad thing!) it could take her longer to be able to sit, but if you're concerned, talk to you pediatrician about that. For a comparison, my kids were both skinny and my son started walking at 8 mo and 1 week. My daughter started exactly 10 days later in her life than my son did. For the 12 mo average, that puts still perfectly fine and perfectly normal kids walking at 16 mo. For my nephew, who was chubby, it did take him longer than my kids. I think it was actually right around 15 mo, so our kids really showed the average. But again, 12 mo is the average, so you've got 3 months still before that, and some kids don't start until months after that. She won't actually be considered slow to walking for at least 6 months at the very soonest.
