My daughter tested positive for strep 2x, and her only symptoms were a runny nose and cough. No fever.
But she is still able to eat somewhat? Also, the strep test came back negative but he said we had to wait until the culture test came back because sometimes the strep tests are 10% wrong...Anyways, just a thought...if she had strep or even a sore throat wouldn't it be hard for her to eat? Her fever spiked up to 102 but it will go back down...? Anyways, just curious...thanks
I mean like she has no trouble eating, or if she does she doesn't display it??

Yes, she can eat...it might be sore so she might do best with soups and yogurt instead of something that may scratch on the way down...
Yes, her fever will go down...she needs fluid to keep from getting dehydrated. Give her Tylenol or Motrin every 6 to 8 hours for fever and pain...
Give her a cool compress on her forehead or back of neck to help bring her fever down faster.
good luck
sometimes yes, sometimes no. When I have a sore throat eating actually can help it to feel better..... sooth the throat.
Strep can be present with almost no symptoms at all. And yes, if your child's initial "quick test" for strep was negative it's still entirely possible that the test that takes longer and usually goes to an outside lab could come back positive and that would be the "correct" one.
Strep is nothing to mess with. Leave it untreated and it becomes scarlet fever. If the dr. says she needs antibiotics, give them to her -- all of them, even if she starts to feel better.
Lots of people have a high pain tolerance (I can eat dry toast, no problem, with strep... my sister can't even swallow water without crying), and some people's immune systems are wonky (when your immune system kicks into overdrive, usually you lose your appetite because the immune response shuts off the digestive system).
I second the soup idea. Also - warm tea with honey was always a lifesaver for me. Lots of liquids to flush her sy stem. Since she isn't throwing up, if she requests a particular food, let her try it.

Lots of things cold sore throats and fever even the common cold. How long has she been sick? When my kids pediatrician tests for strep they do the rapid test and a culture also goes to the lab for just in case but we've never had a pos. Culture when the rapid test was negative. My guess is she probably just has a virus.
Could be herpes angina of the throat -my 3 year old, 1 year old and husband all got it a couple of weeks ago. It took 10 days to run it's course. My husband said it was incredibly painful on the throat and my kids got high fevers on and off. The doc said there is nothing you can do except tylenol and liquids and sleep.
I took my son for a diagnosis of HFM and he asked for a chipotle chicken wrap on the way home and ate every bite. Go figure!
If she's OK with eating, let her eat!
I have had strep few times this year and only one of the times was it hard to eat. So many different symptoms from what I have learned this past year for strep.
There are other severe bacterial infections possible that are NOT Strep! I used to get severe tonsillitis & pharyngitis and when I started getting pus I always knew I needed a shot of penicillin. I'd grown up with this and that's always how the doctor treated it. I went to college and there they only gave antibiotic if it was strep. The result? 105 degree fever with blood pouring down my throat from severe infection. Recently, with a private physician who caved in to "less antibiotics is better" who was culturing my throat with a "wait and see approach" - this time when I went back he almost rushed me to the emergency room.
The bacteria was NOT strep - it was Moraxella catarrhalis. The problem with these other bacteria is they are harder to culture - it takes several days for results.
The good news is if it starts to get better don't worry. In my case - they never got better on their own. A friend of mine had something similar to me as a child and her doctor refused antibiotic. She did recover after languishing months during the winter, missing school. For "just" a sore throat. Gosh and we call that the "good old days?" (I am in my 50s)
