Oh my goodness, the memories! My 15 yr. old daughter and my 16 yr. old neice used to do the same exact thing! They used to bite their arm and put little teeth marks on themselves. I mean they would bite hard! It passed before they got to kindergarden thankfully. My son is almost 2 and he hits his head on the floor or head butts you in the shoulder when he gets mad. I know that this to shall pass.....

It could just be a phase, or it could be a sign of sensory processing disorder. My son has SPD, and that was one of his early signs, he would bite himself, but I didn't know about SPD. You can google it, and here's a site that talks about the various characteristics of it.

Does she bit herself when she doesn't get her way? Is it something she just started and you're giving her more attention now because she's doing this or has it been an ongoing issue?
My son, 3 yr old, hits himself (open hand) on the head or over his eye when he doesn't get his way. We've tried the "ignore him/walk away method" and the "swat on the butt method", but he still continues to do it on occasion (when he does not get his way!). He gets our attention with this action and we believe that's why he continues to hit himself. My mom told me that one of my brothers use to do the same thing and she took him to the doctor and the doctor told her "when he hits himself hard enough that it hurts him, he'll stop hitting himself."
It may be a phase or it may not. Time will tell.

God Bless,
E.
