Do you have any advice on getting my daughter to drink milk out of her sippy cup? She will drink water and juice just fine, but when she sees the milk & tastes it she wants nothing to do with it! Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have to say I agree with LaKesha. If your daughter is still drinking milk from a bottle, she may just not be ready to let it go yet. My son weened himself from breastfeeding at 10 mo old, which was about 6 months before he decided that he didn't need milk from a bottle anymore. (He's 23 months now.) We all have wonderful pediatricians that give us benchmarks about when to introduce sippy cups and when to take away bottles, etc., but all kids are different and if your daughter isn't ready to give it up, what's it going to hurt to let her have it for a bit longer.

My son, now almost 2 years old still won't give up his pacifier. But some of the best advice I ever received, that has given me MUCH peace of mind is that he's not going to go off to college and still be sucking his pacifier. It's just a stage or a season for your daughter; she'll grow out of it.

Good luck!

Is she still taking a bottle? If she is, stop that. My daughter did that and still refuses milk more then my son does. We ended up not offering any other beverage until she had her daily milk intake. Then she could have water and juice as she wanted. They won't dehydrate and it won't hurt them unless they're sick to begin with. Good luck.

i'm having the same issues w/ my 17 month old twins!! my girls are used to having 3 bottles a day of milk (warmed w/ cereal even) so getting them to go from a set bottle time a day to drinking plain milk is a challenge but it seems that if i just put the milk in their sippy cup instead of water and have it available to them during the day instead of at set "milk" times they will drink it better. still working on it though...

What I did with my son is I put his milk in one of those take and toss cups so I could sqeeze the cup and it would squirt into his mouth. Once he figured out it was milk I had no problem. Maybe if the child would drink from a straw they might like that too. Hope this could be of some help.

Hi! Try making a smoothie with frozen fruit. Then letting her have a taste of it off of a spoon. Then let her see that you are putting it into her sippy cup. This should get her to drink it. Try putting some milk in her cereal as well. And keep putting a little bit of regular milk in front of her. Hope that helps!

My 2.5 year old daughter had the same issue...she drank milk from a bottle and juice/water from a sippy until she was about 18 months!! We tend to know what is best by trying to move them along to one medium for drinking, but at the end of the day she'll choose. The bottle may be her way of satisfying that need to suck. There are bottle shaped sippy cups that may help ease the transition, but it may just take time. Be patient, and hang in there!
