I am originally from Shreveport and the public schools are not very good. I suggest magnet schools or private.
My husband has taken a job at the Shreveport Regional Airport and we are having to move. I don't know much about it and I hear more bad than good. What we have researched about the schools is disappointing. I know there are towns on the border of TX and LA and we do not object to commuting 30-35 miles if we have to. Pleas give any suggestions on areas to look and any school districts that are better than others, even private schools would nice info. My church is going to help me find churches to try, but any other suggestions would be helpful...non-denominational. I look forward to hearing from some of you.

Hi R.
What a surprise! We are considering moving to Shreveport too! I have heard there are good magnet schools and know people living there who have sent their kids to Ivy League colleges. We just visited Shreveport a couple weeks ago. We are Christians also and we are thinking to join the church in Shreveport (see http://www.churchinshreveport.com ). It
is a group of genuine, seeking believers (about 30 with children ranging from baby to high school; they are renting a meeting place presently) gathering together for meetings and informal times-- a true church life, not just Sunday services! Although there are leading ones, everyone shares their experiences of Christ and help each other understand the Word, and it is so enjoyable! I'm sure some of the people there would know more about schools and there is also a lady named Patsy who is an experienced realtor and longtime resident of Shreveport. I hope Shreveport will feel like home to you soon and maybe I will meet you there! May the Lord bless you with "seasons of refreshing" (Acts 3:20)!!
Dear R.,
When I read your message, the first thing I thought was "This nice lady needs a great Realtor!". I am a Realtor in Southlake, but I could refer you to someone in Shreveport, if you don't already have someone you enjoy working with there. If you need help, just let me know. I would be happy to steer you in the right direction.

My husband is from Shreveport and says that most schools are not very good, but there are magnet schools that ARE very good. There's a website called Great Schools that should help your search. Here's a link to the Shreveport section - http://www.greatschools.net/city/Shreveport/LA
My sis in-law and her family live in Greenwood, which is east of Shreveport. They live just a few miles south of I-20 in a really nice neighborhood. I think it takes her about 25-30 min to get to her job in Shreveport.
They have a 5 year old who just got accepted into a magnet school in Shreveport. I think it's either Fairfield or South Highlands.
