I am another patient from Wilkerson OBGYN - love them! They are all wonderful doctors. Dr. Carter delivered my son 2 years ago. I usually see Dr. Flannagan, though - she's great!
Hi ladies,
Iam 21 weeks pregnant and I will be moving to Raleigh Durham in couple of weeks due to a job transfer. Can anyone give me some reference for hospitals and Ob/Gyn in the area?
Thanks for all your input. Since I come under High Risk Category( due to very rare syndrome with the first that I ended up losing) my ob/gyn referred to Duke University. I moved here last week and had my first appointment with the Maternal Fetal Medicine clinic. Everything went fine and I discussed all my options and they completely support my thought of going natural with this baby. Hope I have a good experience here.

Absolutely LOVE Dr. Alan Holton. I'm 21 weeks pregnant too, I'll never go to anyone else. He's right across from Rex hospital.
I go to Atrium OB/GYN in Raleigh. ANY of the doctors there are great!! They deliver at Rex Hospital. I have 3 kids and they have delivered all 3 with no problems. Congratulations!
Their website is:

Wilkerson's OB/GYN is located at the Rex Hospital on Blue Ridge Rd. I've been with them for 15yrs. Great doctors. As of right now there is 1 male doctor and the rest are female.
I'm a big fan of Atrium OB/GYN. I see jill Barbour (NP) and she is fabulous! All the Dr.s over there are great. Dr. Beatty delivered my little one. I also delivered at Rex hospital which is across the street and I didn't want to leave!!!! It was like being in a hotel!
They are both on Blue Ridge Rd. I think Atrium is under the "Women's Health Alliance" but I think they're still called Atrium OB/GYN :)
Anywho, hope you find someone you like!!!!!
Associates Of Women's Healthcare, Raleigh, NC
Amazing group of women. I have been going to them since a couple of them branched away from their original practice to form this all women's OB/GYN like 9 years ago. I have had three children with them and each doctor brings a new and fresh personality yet all are spectacularly intelligent.
I would never recommend anyone or anything that I truly did not believe would benefit the person asking. Women's Healthcare is very important to my heart and these women know women inside and out.
Best wishes on your little one!!!!
I'll second Crystal F's recomendation of Atrium OBGYN in Raleigh. All of the doctors there are great. They delivered my 2nd child.
I have been going to Mid-Caroling OBGYN at Rex Hospital for more than 15 years. I absolutely Love Them. I had many issues and was not sure I could ever get pregnant. I finally did get pregnant and have a wonderful 5 1/2 year old daughter. It was a very high risk pregancy and they were there with me all the way. I love every doctor in the practice. They are all woman except Dr Woodruff (the founder of the practice). Welcome and good luck. L.
Hi P.,
Welcome to the area! I've had my three children with the OB/GYN practice Kamm, McKenzie, Harden, etc. The doctors and nurses are absolutely amazing. I also delivered at Wake Med. The only downside to Wake Med is that only 2 family members are allowed in your hospital room at a time when the baby is delivered. For my huge family this was a big problem.
Sounds like there are several like me that have had great experiences with Atrium Ob-Gyn and Rex Hospital. I hope all goes well with your move. Welcome to Raleigh!
Hi P.,
Welcome to the area. I go to Wikerson OB/GYN (http://www.wilkersonobgyn.com/) and LOVE them. They have a great staff. My favorite doctors are Roche and Flannagan but they are good. I delivered at Rex and so did all my friends an we all had great experiences there. Hope this helps.
When I found out I was pregnant with my first child I started asking around (I wasn't happy with my current doctor)....everyone recommended Atrium OBGYN. I LOVE them. That was in 2005. I am now pregnant with baby #2. I cannot recommend them enough. Good luck.
I would mention Blue Ridge ObGyN and Rex Hospital. They both have been great with my first preganancy, and so far with my second! Good luck with yours!
Hello, I moved to raleigh over a year ago when I was only 8 weeks pregnant. I pretty much had to pick an OB out of the phone book. Boy did I get lucky! I LOVE them...I had such an amazing experience that I reccommend these doctors to everyone. I go to Blue Ridge OBGYN. They have two locations in Raleigh and they are affiliated with Rex. I hope this helps!
I second Kamm, McKenzie, Harden, Smith reference. They were with me through two pregnancies. I would trust them with any high risk (or standard) situation. There's tons of experience there and my perception is that they are the cream of the crop here in Raleigh. My preference is for Dr. Harden, but all the docs are great. They do deliver at Wake Med. I saw absolutely no drawbacks to Wake Med. You'll hear alot of people "prefer" Rex, but I have talked to tons of moms and I think this is unjustified based on facts and experiences. Good luck!
I delivered at Wake Med Cary and was really happy there. I think it really depends on you, your personality and what you're looking for. Someone below mentioned Blue Ridge OB/GYN which is where I started my pregnancy but ended up switching at 32 weeks when I finally got up the courage because I didn't think they'd allow me to have the type of delivery I wanted.
Also, when we did our hospital tour of Rex I wasn't real thrilled. I've also heard a lot of "horror stories" of nurses pushing drugs on patients who wanted a natural delivery, of giving babies formula when mom wants to exclusively breastfeed and what not. From what I've heard Rex is the least natural childbirth friendly of the hospitals around so if that is something you are interested in take that into account.
Where will you be living and what kind of labor/delivery are you looking for?
I had my daughter 6 months ago with Capital Area OB/GYN and was really pleased with the practice. My primary doctor is Dr. Tosky and Dr. Gausmann delivered me. They have 2 offices - one in Cary and one beside Rex in Raleigh. They deliver at Rex Hospital and I had a good experience there too.
Let me know if you need any more info.

I also recommend Kamm, McKenzie. I have delivered two babies with them and have been a patient for over 10 years. I cannot say enough great things about all the doctors (though Dr. Bass is my favorite). Their website is www.wakeobgyn.com in case you want to check them out. I did natural childbirth with both of mine and they were very supportive.
Good Luck!
I go to Wilkerson OBGYN and had my baby at Rex in June, also. I highly recommend them. Their office is at the hospital.
