Moving to Oviedo - What Do You Think of the Schools (Partin Elem/Chiles Middle)

We are looking to move to Live Oak and I have done some research on the elementary and middle schools (Partin Elementary and Chiles Middle School) and am going to set up times to go visit them. Does anyone live over in that area and can comment on the schools, neighborhood, community? Our kids currently attend Good Shepherd Catholic School. Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

My children attended Partin. Since then, we have moved to live closer to my husband's company.

I am a former teacher, and I thought my daughters' teachers were very good -- (one actually superb!!). However, at our new school, I prefer the creative approach they take to the FCAT. The children learn the same objectives, but in a more creative -- less "FCAT ditto sheet" -- approach.

Also, we do not have weekly packets of homework for the younger grades (K, 1st, 2nd). We have a reading log and math activities, but it seems less stressful than nightly or weekly dull packets. Also, research shows that the homework time should increase as the child enters middle school and high school, not the other way around.

I don't think my comments are too much of a negative, though, in the overall scheme of the school. I would still be happy if my daughters attended Partin. It has tons of parental involvement and dedicated teachers.

I have friends who live in Live Oak, and they rave about the community (FYI: Don't pay full price for a home right now. Wait to buy as long as you can. The real estate market experts say it still has a 10 to 20% drop to go! But that won't matter if you are 100% positive you are staying in the house for at least 5 years.)

You'll love Oviedo - a young family-type of town!

hi,
We have lived in Live Oak for 5 years now and are very happy with the neighborhood. There are neighborhood parks, tennis court, pool, etc and big sidewalks to ride your bike to school. This year I will have 2 kids at Partin (K and 2nd). We have been very happy with the school. I am on the PTA board so I am quite involved. The principal really puts a big emphasis on academics. Our neighbors go to LCMS and they are happy with it. Mine will go there when they are old enough! I know 2 families who moved from G.S. to Partin. I don't think you can go wrong with your move!

Hi L.,
I live in Riverside (the community where Partin is located). This is a real family oriented, quiet side of town. We have lived here for 7 years and honestly have no complaints about the community. The area is constantly growing and the traffic on 419 has really increased over the years but there are sidewalks on both sides so it doesn't interfere with family walks and/or bike rides. Live Oak is a newer subdivsion with perks such as a community pool so I think you and your family will be very happy there. If we are still living here when my 15 month old son is ready to start kindergarten I will not hesitate to enroll him at Partin.

Best Wishes,
S.

Those schools are wonderful!! I myself attended Partin Elem the 2nd year it was open. I have fond memories of that school, when I was little there was basically nothing out there and the atmosphere was excellent. It is also nice that Partin is across the street from Lawton Middle. I am a substitute teacher there at Lawton, and the students there are amazing. I've had a wonderful opportunity to observe how the students treat each other and I have been impressed. I think you will find that those two schools are great.
