I am moving to the Chandler, AZ area and am in need of a daycare referral. I have spoke with a couple of daycares in the area and am having a hard time believing that it is going to cost 300 per week for a 4 month old and a 3 year old. Does anyone have any ideas that could help us. This job is a great opportunity for me but I'm not going to be able to take it if I have to pay that much in daycare. I could really use some advice and suggestions.

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

I know it frustrating, but that is pretty typical for your age children for a good daycare. What I would suggest is checking with Arizona Childcare Resource and Referral (online is www.azchildcare.org (I think)) They have a network of both family child care (in someone's home) and daycare facilities. They have a lot of good information about finding child care in Arizona, and I know many people who have found wonderful people to care for their children. Check it out =) I hope you are able to work things out...this is a great place to live!

$300 seems about right for a daycare center. My kids go to a private babysitter and I pay $120 per week per child, so it works out to $240 per week. My kids are 1 and 4.

Good Luck!

I have my 3yr old son in Bethany Community Church Learning Center. He goes MWF from 9a to 12p and I pay 175 a month. They do also have a full time program and I have the option of dropping him off early (they open at 7a)or leaving him late (they close at 6p) and they charge me 4.25 per hr. You just have to let them know the day of. It's really nice to have that option. They take kids starting at 15 mo.
The other place I have heard is great and they start at 6 wks is Day Springs.

I moved here from California and was very surprised that commercial child care here wanted between 800 and 900 a month for a child who was potty trained. I ended up doing a lot of leg work and finding a private home child care that only has 4 other children and charges 25.00 per day. She also doesn't charge for when my child is out or when she goes on vacation. She isn't accepting any more children (she wants to keep the ratio low to give them each attention), but I'm sure you can find the same if you look hard enough. I would even suggest calling those signs you see posted on the medians and phone polls. That's how I found her because I almost gave up and she is licensed and wonderful!

I just moved here a couple of weeks ago and have been looking for Daycare too. I have looked into a few and couln't believe the prices either. Back where we came from it was like $90 a week and here the cheapest that I have found was $165 and I wouldn't dare take my daughter there. So the next cheapest we found was $180 at Tutor time and it seems great! I know that it would be higher for you because I only have a 1 year old but at least that will give you an idea. There are Tutor Times everywhere.
