Movie for a 5 Year Old

Me and my 4 yr old daughter saw both of them. Marley was a good movie but I had NO IDEA how sad it was going to be! My daughter still loved it and even wanted to see it again but I did have to explain death a little more than I wanted to at this time. Hotel For Dogs is a wonderful movie, it does have a little sadness too but overall a really great movie. Have fun!!

I would take a 5 year old to "Hotel For Dogs" but not "Marley and Me". It's a weeper and although some people say it's "so family friendly", I think older children may be ok, but not a 5 year old who is going to see the dog die in the end (and lots of adult themes -marital, pregnancy/miscarriage, etc.).

Hi, I saw Marley and Me and it's a great movie, but the end is very sad. Not sure if I would take someone that young cause you may be explaining later what happened and why the dog died. I have not seen Hotel for dogs but think it is probably more age appropriate.

Even though Marley and Me is a great movie, it has a very sad ending that will either really upset her or she won't understand. I don't want to ruin it on here for anyone that hasn't seen it yet, so if you'd like the ending, please message me. I haven't seen Hotel for Dogs yet except for the previews so I can't say about that one.

I would not take her to see Marley and me cause the dog dies so that might not be a good thing for her

We took my grandchildren 11 & 8 to Marley & me & were a bit concerned about some parts. Thought of leaving at one point but didn't. We went yesterday to see Hotel for Dogs & clapped during & at the end of the movie. It was excellent! Marley & Me was very good, but questionable at different times. It wasn't totally appropriate, but glad we were there to answer any questions that came up. I hope you enjoy Hotel for Dogs. Excellent.

This is a great site, as you can find the movie and it will let you know what it is about and why it was rated the way it was. It will even tell you how many times a bad word was used in a movie.

From what I've read, this is NOT a movie for young kids. In fact a lot of strong advise against it for young kids. What about Bedtime Stories?

Just took my seven year old on Sunday to see Hotel for Dogs. It is a great movie and totally kid appropriate. I have heard that Marly & Me has some pretty adult themes.

I'd go with Hotel for Dogs....my niece says Marley may be to adult for a 5 yr old. I haven't seen either yet I can say this my kids went to see Charlotte's Web the one with real people Rosanne was the voice for one of the animals and to the point when the spider dies my kids cried and cried and the ages this summer where 4, 6 and 7 at time of viewing. They also saw all dogs go to heaven again they were not ready for that either.

I seen both movies with my children and I have to say that they both were good but " Marley and Me' was a little bit sadder and made my kids cry and me too.

I definitely recommend Hotel for Dogs! I would steer clear of Marley and Me, it is an adult movie that has been irresponsibly marketed to children in my opinion. (The movie is primarily about an adult marital relationship and the dog dies in the end!) On the other hand, I saw Hotel for Dogs with my 6 year old this weekend (to make up for missing Marley which he desperately wanted to see) and he absolutely loved it. It kept his attention the whole time (which is almost unheard of for him) and he talked in detail about it for hours afterward.

I don't know either one of those movies, sorry. However, Milo & Otis is an excellent, very appropriate movie. My five year old daughter loves it, we got it for her third birthday and it has been a hit ever since.

My family and I saw Marley and me (wonderful movie!) but, had alot more adult like moments then I thought. Didn't like that even for my 8 yr old son.

I took my 4yr old to see Hotel for Dogs at the new NCG Cinema in Acworth. She absolutely loved it, there were loads of families in as well with young babies. very appropriate. Take her she will laugh all the way thru!!

I would definitely say Hotel for Dogs. Marley and me is a great movie, but more adult and will make you cry....don't know if a 5 year old is ready for that one.

there are scened about miscarriages and what the couple go through as a result of a lost pregnancy, and then at the end when marley is sick and being carried up and down stairs and eventual death they show the funny clips in the previews but I have heard a few horror stories from moms who didn't know what it was about brought their kids and the topics were much too adult for the children.

the movie is based on a memoir not a comedy though anyone who has dogs or kids knows sometimes they just do crazy things!

I would say hotel for dogs may be a good bet but I haven't really looked into it.

i would take her to see hotel for dogs...it is really a kids movie, and there are alot of dogs in it, and children...marley and me is more about the life of the family than it is of the dog, and he does get old and die in the end...probably too much for a five year old to handle.

Having seen both with my 11 and 6 year old boys, I would recommend Hotel for Dogs. It was alot better than we though it would be! Marley is an amazing movie as well; however, it was a real tear jerker. My 11 year old was sobbing in the theater...along with me and my husband. the 6 yr old knew it was sad--but didn't "get it". Go see Hotel for a feel good story and some laughs. Save Marley for when she's older.

Marley and Me is a downer, ends with the dog dying and the kids crying. Not a good movie for small children, if you ask me. I left the theater depressed! Haven't seen Hotel for Dogs, but if it's reviewed to be funny and is rated G, it should be great to see with your daughter.

no you are stupid if you think you can buy your daughter becaus that is what you are doing give her a slap n send her to bed

I saw Marley and Me and I loved the picture A terriffic movies but I do not know if your child is ready for the ending The dog had to be put to sleep do not get me wrong it was done in a very tastefull way but are you ready to explain death to your daughter at this tender age? In the other hand if you have pets at home it will be an opening for this happens to the pets at home

I have not seen either, but a friend of mine saw Marley & Me and I would not recommend it for a 5 year old. I understand it has a lot of inappropriate language. My sister-in-law took her 3 daughters to see Hotel for Dogs this weekend and said it was very good. I would recommend the later.
