Mono in 3 Year Old?

Hi J....Mono is a virus. and a pretty hard hitting one. No matter what kind of virus it is, digestive enzymes will help. They eat away at the lining of the virus cell wall so that your little one's immune system can actually get to the virus to fight it. Make sure he is eating well and getting plenty of fluids. Weird, mono usually is accompanied by swollen throat/glands, muscle pain, feeling unwell and serious fatigue that lasts for weeks or even months, and it is highly contagious at least in the young. I've had it as a teen along with half of my school and couldn't barely function for weeks. I've never heard of it in one so young. He most likely has a virus, but the mono virus... seems unlikely, (I am not a Dr. though, obviously).

My three year old had mono and we never even new she had it until we had to get blood work done because her tonsils were swollen. It turned out that she did not have mono at that time, but she did at some point. Once you have mono, it will always show up on your blood work. We were so surprised that she ever even had it because she did not show any signs of it. The doctor said it is totally different in kids, and they usually do not get all the symptoms that adults get. Very weird in my opinion!

Have you called the surgeon who removed the tonsils and asked about what this could be? Could very well be an infection related to that, although I recall that bleeding from the tonsil beds seemed to be the biggest worry. We were also not allowed to give our daughter ibuprofen because of the bleeding, only tylenol=paracetemol. I would definetely call the surgeon's office or the after-care number from the hospital and make sure the regular doctor knows this. If you do not feel your regular doctor is giving it enough attention, find a new doctor.
