MONO! Help!

my DD has mono, she's 14 and she's so sick. High fevers, can barely get out of bed...we are on day 6 and all we can do is just keep giving her tylenol and water and making her eat a little.
I know there is nothing that can be done...but if there are any mommas out there who have dealt with mono and who have been able to find something that made their child feel better or maybe get better sooner all tips are welcome!

What can I do next?

Sometimes it takes months for kids to get over mono. It's one of those illnesses that wipes them out. I wouldn't expect her to even be getting out of bed except to go to the bathroom. She needs lots of liquids and rest. Our bodies heal the best when they're asleep. She may not want to eat anything. She may even go on binges where only one food is appetizing. This is because her tongue is effected by Mono. She'll eventually get her taste buds back.

I would say for the rest of summer she's down. Not doing any activities, going on trips, taking it easy completely. If she has big plans for travel then she needs to rest as much as possible, even if she gets feeling better. Her body will slowly build back up and it's going to be really easy to get other illnesses. Her resistance is down and will stay that way for a while.

My sister had mono for most of 2nd grade (almost 10 months).
Every time she started feeling better she became more active and it threw her right back into a relapse.
For most of the school year I had to bring home assignments and take her finished work back to school for her.
Just have her rest/sleep/rest some more and keep her well supplied with chicken soup (nutritious and easy to digest) and be patient.

Hi K.,

There are things that can be done! The immune system needs to be strengthened. An absorbable multivitamin will do wonders. Beta Glucan is an incredible immune booster. As a matter of fact, it is used in alternative cancer treatment and works by building the immune system so strong that the cancer dies out. Chiropractic are will also help. When the neurological system is at it's optimum, the rest of the body functions properly.

Hope this helps!
M.

I had MONO when I was 18, I remember feeling terrible, worst sore throat ever! My doctor put me on prednisone and it quickly helped me to feel better within a few weeks, but it caused me to gain weight...particularly in my face. It took a long time for me to return to normal after that, if I had known I would have had that reaction to prednisone I never would have gone on it. My brother had the same reaction after being prescribed that drug for poison ivy. Just thought I'd share that, it doesn't sound like her doctor has prescribed that.

I would give her high doses of vitamin C. Stretch smaller doses out throughout the day.
