Any information you can give me about aspergers, specifically learning you have aspergers as an adult would be greatly appreciated.

I have recently discovered there is a good chance I have Apergers (an autism spectrum disorder) and I want some help putting this into context. It does explain a lot to me, though.

What can I do next?

My 12 year old daughter has Aspergers, which really just describes the fact that she has difficulty reading social cues and putting herself in someone else's shoes. She is creative, bright, witty and beautiful. She goes to the Neurodevelopment Center in Providence to see a counselor just to help her understand the social stuff that she doesn't really care about.

The Aspergers Association of New England, aane.com, is the best resource because you can find tons of info as well as support groups, etc for adults with Asperger. I would suggest joining as soon as possible so that you can be part of their bulletin boards. They will also send you a packet of info tailored to your specific needs. Good luck!

Oh I have so many friends who have had great results with dietary changes and putting optimal nutrition, DHA and omega 3's into their diet - it really mitigates the effects of many forms of autism, especially Aspergers, although it doesn't always completely eliminate them. Still, huge, life-changing results have come to so many people who use products from Reliv because they are so pure, top quality and well-researched. Reliv is a fantastic company, 20 years old, and so highly rated - top scientists put the best ingredients into a highly absorbable form which is so much better than pill supplements you try to pick out at the pharmacy or health food aisle. I'd go with the science and research any day. This is cutting edge stuff. Let me know if you want more info and an introduction to other Asperger's folks. Good luck! I am glad you are starting to get some answers even though it raises more questions.

My older son was diagnosised with mild aspergers 6 years ago. I read everything I could find and freaked out, thought I may have it too and generally blew it out of proportion. It comes in different severities - he has "mild." So it isn't crippling to him - so he doesn't always look me in the eye, he socializes with superiors and older people, he is eccentric, wears a tie to public middle school EVERY day, he discovered his passion (sailing) at an early age, he is unique. Besides, this puts him in the company of Thomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein - not bad (thanks goodness they're not ax murderers)!

Until you get a concrete diagnosis, relax. There are worse things to have. If you're a fully functioning adult with healthy relationships, don't sweat it. Casually look into support groups and the literature.

Good luck, relax, and enjoy your family!

I have a nephew who has it. I wanted to learn a bit more and read this book about a man who discovered later in life that he had it. Here's the info: Look Me in the Eye: My Life with Asperger's (Hardcover)
by John Elder Robison (Author)
Good luck!
