Hello all! I am a homeowner, a business owner, a Mother and a wife but what I really want to be is a TEACHER! I'm 31 years old and I really want to go back to school. My husband is not a big fan of the idea since we do work together and he wouldn't have my support anymore. Also, things at work are slow and I don't know if me not showing up everyday is gonna make it that much worse. It's gonna be hard but I really want to go back to school. I have an A.S degree but then stopped school and did the Mommy thing for a while and now we have been in business for 5 years but I want something different. My girls are 5 and 6 and a boy who is 11 months who I still breastfeed. He will be a year next month so I know that if I left him with Grandma, he would be fine just eating his cereal and Gerbers which he loves. Has any of you Mommy's gone to school after starting a family and what is your advice or suggestions, concerns or anything? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

I started my Master's and got preggers about 1/2 way through. I am finally ( 8 years later) back in the swing with now, two children, working full time and only 12 hours left - YES!
It is challenging, and time consuming and takes some serious planning, but my suggestion is give yourself enough time to start successfully meaning don't jump in and not have a plan of how to finish (hello - my mistake) from a time and financial aspect and dig, dig, dig into any and all programs that allow for scholarship and financial aid that does not have to be paid back.
Best of luck and good for you!

I am your age as well. I have 2 classes left until I finish my associates. I am pregnant with number 3 but plan on finishing up those two classes in the spring. Then starting my undergrad afterwards, though I obviously won't be able to go full time.

Sometimes, you have to do what you think is best for your future. My dad had cancer young and often couldn't work, so it was up to my uneducated mom to support us. I never want to be in that position myself.

My kids are 8, 6, and 4 and I am in the last year of my MBA program. I started when my youngest was about 6 months old, took 4 classes, and then took a break. I started again last January. It is very doable, if you are in the right mindset. I also work full-time outside of the home, and all 3 of my kids are in activities, plus my husband works 2 hours away, so I'm a single mom during the week. Now my classes are online, so that helps me work it into my crazy schedule. I highly recomment it though. The older the kids get, the harder it gets. And I can say that having done it both ways.

GO, GO, GO!!!!

This is my advice for anyone considering going back to school. Start off with one class. Then another. If you do well and are up to the challenge, take two in a semester. If it takes you a few years, so be it. 5 years is going to come and go no matter what. How great will it be if in 5 years, you get to wear that cap and gown? And since it's undergrad, you can get great grants.

I was looking into going for my MBA - no grants at that level and my company won't pay. It's 50k. So I won't be getting that any time soon. :(

Don't go back to school, at least right now. Your husband and kids need you, and you need to be there for them, or you risk things falling apart on the homefront. Trust me, when my focus leaves the home to concentrate on my job, everyone suffers. Tension builds, selfishness takes over, and nobody is happy. If you want to be a teacher, you already have your students right in your very home! Teach them, maybe even consider homeschooling. I'm homeschooling and it is so much fun to learn alongside my kids. But I realize it's not for everyone. You can always go back to school/work when your kids are older. But focus on your growing family right now--THAT is your priority!!

I just got accepted into an online program to finish my bachelor's. I will start in the spring and I have 4 kids aged 9, 5, 4 & 3. I plan on doing all of my work/studying in the evenings after my kids go to bed and/or on the weekends. I'm actually really looking forward to going back to school! I say go for it!!
