Mom Seeking Other Moms of Autistic Children

My son has recently been diagnosed with autism, which was not really a suprise for us. The behaviors that led us to see a developmental pediatrician have been present for a long time but initially we attributed them to his developmental delay, chromosomal abnormality. For some reason just having the diagnosis has been hard, it's like my thoughts about what the future holds for him have changed. Also diagnosed hyperactive, inattentive, impulsive, oppositional. Recent testing by the school psychologist, as part of deciding where to place him for kindergarten, put him in the mildly mentally retarded category. I need to find a support group for moms with kids with autism or just special needs so I don't feel so isolated, overwhelmed.

What can I do next?

Hi J.,
My son was diagnosed just before he turned 3. He's now nearly 4 1/2, and the therapies we have done have been extremely beneficial for him. Most people who come into contact with him would never guess he has autism, all thanks to the training we've had and the therapies he's had. It's too much to write, so if you'd like, reply to this and I'd be glad to talk to you by phone or email. Are you in Phoenix? We're in North Phx, near I 17 and Happy Valley.
You are certainly not alone. I remember when he was first diagnosed, I felt like I was hit by a truck, and had all the same worries you did. Take the bull by the horns, and dig in. You are the only advocate your son has, so it's up to you to get him what he needs.
Hang in there - your son is so lucky to have you on his side. :)

J. I know the old Gold Dust elementary school has free classes for kids with Autism. It is located at 36th street and Cholla. You might want to check in to that and if they can help you will be with other families in the same situation. I do daycare for an autistic boy and also have a friend with 2 severely autistic children. All 3 have been taking Himalayan GoChi juice and have had amazing progress. If this is something you might like to try you have a 90 day money back guarantee and it is totally worth it. All natural product. You can go to my web page at Barbgarcia.com or call me at 6002-###-###-#### and I can answer any questions you may have.
Good Luck to you
