I'm having a little issue with my son. He will be four in about a month. He has been potty trained for almost a year. He totally refuses to poop in the potty. He has only accomplished this once. He throws a fit. Crying, screaming, moving all around trying to get off. I have tried talking. Using his friends as examples doesnt work. I am at a loss. Our family doctor told us to first try having him acknoldege he has to go and having him get a pull up to go in. He does do that but thats not helping him transition to the potty. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Don't feel alone my son will be 5 on November 1 ,and still will not poop in the tolet or on a potty...We have been trying my husband and I sit with him and tell him storys and he has his little sit to go over the big one...Now he has pooped in the tolet before for us once 2 years ago and my mom once about 1 year ago so i know that they can do it but they just don't want to...So I am still putting a diaper on for him to just go poop...
If u get any good tips please let me know...
THanks and good luck to you

Hi C.:
With Christmas just around the corner (assuming you celebrate X-mas), I would use this to your advantage. A friend of mine told her daughter that Santa took all of her diapers and she had to go in the potty or else no presents from Santa. It worked for her and it sounds like as long as he has a diaper to go in, he will continue avoiding the potty. I would try not to give him a choice. He may have an accident but soon he will realize that he doesn't have a diaper as a security blanket. Good luck.

Well I have a 2 1/2 yr. old and I am having a hard time trying to potty train him. He does ok when I put him on the potty or on the seat that can be placed on the actual toilet but when it comes to doing number 2 as we call it or dudu he hides away in the corner and does it in his pull ups. I tell him he must let me know when he needs to go but he just repeats what I say and does it in the pull ups anyway.
All I can say is we need to be patient and hopefully he will learn to use his potty.
Wish u Luck and if u have any advice for me with my son using the potty I would greatly appreciate it.

I do not agree with your doctor on the pull-ups. You should take your son to the store and let him pick out a couple pairs of his own special underwear (fav. charachter or big boy boxers) whatever he likes. Explain to him that if he goes #2 in them that you will have to throw them away and he will never get to wear them again. He may have some accidents, but you should notice he will at least try. I also had to resort to bribes with my youngest son. Find a peice of candy or a treat and evrey time he goes #2 on the potty make a big deal out of it and give him his treat. Hope these ideas are of some help to you.
