Modern Kids Stuff SolarVeil Baby Sling

Anyone use this sling by Modern Kids Stuff? I have an almost 4 month old who needs to be held all the time. I'm currently using a front baby carrier...but it kills my back. Also, I'm usually chasing around a 2 year old and I don't feel as if my baby is secure in the front carrier I use. I'm looking at getting the SolarVeil sling...but I'm afraid to spend the money and my baby not be interested. From what I hear...the sling is useful throughout the first year and beyond.

What can I do next?

I had a Solarveil ring sling for my daughter and LOVED it. It was mostly used at the pool for exactly the same reason as you have - I had a 2 year old to chase around. I had the ring sling type, and used it two summers - when she was almost 1 and almost 2.

I haven't used this particular sling, but I have several others that I LOVE and carry my 2-month old daughter in - and I can still use them for my 2-year old son in a pinch (like if we're out for a long walk and he gets tired). Slings are great baby carriers.

I suggest checking reviews at www.thebabywearer.com before you buy anything.

slings can be wonderful or can be a huge pain if the fit is not right. if it is a ring sling, then you can adjust accordingly -- that is what i carried my daughter around in a lot when i was busy chasing my 2yo son around the place (and beyond -- i can still put her in it now at almost 3 years old, but of course she prefers walking everywhere). there are also pouch slings which aren't adjustable but also easier to use because you don't have to fiddle with them to get the sized (just have to make sure you buy the right size). another great thing is mei tais or asian style baby carriers if you haven't tried one of those. there are tons of different kinds and brands and there are also more "commercial" version with buckles instead of tie-on-straps like ergo. these are great because once you figure them out they work on your front or for back carrying. a ring sling or pouch can be used for both as well, but i never felt secure doing anything other than front or side with one personally.

there are also wraps that some people like -- i never did but for younger children i think they do offer a very secure fit as you basically wrap and tie them around you baby/you. some are stretchy (like the moby wrap), and others much less so. but it's another option that some people like, though i never really got the hang of it.

if you live anywhere near a natural baby store or even online store that offers in-person consultation, i highly recommend trying things out in-person first to see what feels right. but do keep in mind it often takes many babies/children a few attempts to get used to carriers, so don't immediately assume it's a bust if there are tears!

I've never heard of this brand but I use a Hotsling and if you get the size right, it works great. I can use it with my 5 month old and my 20 month old. I also have a soft carrier that works well too. It's by Catbird Baby it's called Pikkolo. I can wear the little one in front facing in or out and it's great for your back. I can also wear my toddler backpack style with it. If you have any questions let me know!

Hi J. -
I sell Taylor Made Slings and I just sold my last SolerVeil Sling today. They are great but, most moms by them for use in the summertime because they are very light weight and airy. I have samples of the fabric if you would like to see it. I'm in Lindenhurst. I can order it for you if you really want one.

I really don't think it will meet your need though. I personally LOVE my Ergo! It is a bit more expensive but well worth it. I still use it daily for my 33 month old! She loves it! I still use my Maya Wrap (ring sling too) but not nearly as much. I'd be happy to show you the different carriers that I have and let you try them on. My website is www.lovebugsco.com

Hope that helps! A.
