I know the list of "official" side effects of Mirena, but I am starting to believe that it simulates pregnancy and makes you feel pregnant. I have random nausea, sore and swollen breasts and areolas (checked by dr and was told they were ok), fatigue. I took preg tests when my period didn't come and they were negative, I had sex during ovulation last time but it was 8 days ago so too early to test. Please tell me am I losing my mind of Mirena "tricks" your body into thinking it's pregnant so you don't get pregnant. I really want this bc to work but I am getting really freaked out right now

What can I do next?

Yep. Mirena made me not only feel pregnant all the time but also made me feel batshit crazy. My unsolicited advice... Don't wait to have it removed if you are having awful side effects.

I also did get pregnant while using Mirena. It ended in a miscarriage.

Here's the thing with Mirena. Even though many women have little to no bleeding during their period , hormones still cycle with Mirena. So yes, you still get PMS-like (or pregnancy-like) symptoms at different times of your cycle.

Try tracking your symptoms for a few months, and my guess is the symptoms are not random, they correspond with different points in your cycle. Then, each month you won't panic, you'll just know - oh yeah, it's 2 weeks since my last period and this is when I always have sore breasts for a few days (or whatever).

And, FWIW, mirena has been great for me. I've had it for 4 years and I love it.

I'm on my second Mirena, and personally I love it. I see you've posted a few questions recently about it so it sounds like you're having some wacky symptoms. I know (and some people posted below) a few people that this form of BC just didn't work for, it made them crazy, etc. But I know others, myself included, who love it and have had zero problems. If you feel like you're in the first category, get rid of it. Personally, I might wait it out a few more months to see if you get used to it. I will say that the first 1-3 months are a bit whacky with irregular bleeding, etc.

Mirena makes the uterus an inhospitable environment for a fertilized egg, that's how it works. You might stop ovulating, you might not, but even if you do ovulate and that egg does get fertilized you have a very low chance of it actually implanting and resulting in pregnancy. No BC is 100%.

You can see your doctor and he/she can check to see that the Mirena string is still visible. If it's still visible that means it's still in place and your chance of pregnancy is slim to none. It's my understanding that most pregnancies that occur while on Mirena happen when it gets moved/dislodged, which sounds super yucky I know, but I don't think it's common.

I seriously doubt your are pregnant but if you feel crazed and hormonal all the time then maybe this isn't the option for you.

I've read so many Mirena horror stories that I wouldn't even consider it as an option. Sorry! Perhaps you might call your doctor to discuss your symptoms?

Look into the Paraguad iud. It's the copper one with NO hormones so your period still comes at the same time monthly you don't have a bunch of stuff going through your body either. It's amazing I've had mine for 6 months and each month my period is easier and easier. Constant hormones screw with your body and can get your whole system out of whack. I'll never go back to hormonal birth control. I still get sore breasts and cramps but it's just a day or two before my periods start.and they only last 3 days or so. And you wont have to worry about a late/no period.

Not to freak you out more, but I had a horrible Mirena expierence. I got pregnant with my last child while using mirena. My suggestion, call your doctor and talk about your symptoms. There are so many horror stories about it now, that I can say 100% I would have never gone with it.

That's exactly how hormonal birth control works, actually.
So, yes, all very very possible.
And as long as the IUD is still in place, it's unlikely that you are pregnant.
Not impossible, but unlikely.

Absolutely-yes. This question pops up often. The annoying pregnancy symptoms and the paranoia it caused are the biggest reasons why I had it removed.
