I also have the mirena, I have not gained any or lost any. I'm the same. So I would say that it's because you are building muscles
I had the Mirena IUD inserted after the birth of my daughter in Feb. '07. For about 6 months now, I've been working out at least 4 times a week and significantly modified my diet. I haven't been losing that much weight and I wondered if it might be linked to the hormone in the Mirena. Does anyone know anything about this?
Thank you to everyone who gave advice/suggestions. I talked with my doctor and she said that the small amount of hormone in the Mirena is not the kind to cause weight gain. I am in my mid to late 30's, so I just have to keep working hard at losing weight and be patient because it might take a little longer. :-)

I think I agree with Cathy... Plus birth control always made me gain weight! I always seemed to put on a few pounds every year I was on it due to the hormones.
Ummmm..... I have the Mirena and have the same problem, but I think it's because I'm alittle older now that I'm having trouble loseing the weight, not the Mirena.
J., I was on Mirena and I had no problem losing weight or maintaining. I have noticed the older you get the harder it is to keep it off because your metabolism changes. Also, you are turning your fat into muscle which weighs more. I would go on how your clothes fit.
Good Luck!!!!and don't worry.
Some things to consider why you are not loosing weight: stress, are you eating enough, are you eating the right foods, and there are some other things to consider as well. It is great that you are working out, but sometimes that is not enough.
If you would like to talk further about this, contact me at ____@____.com, and we can set up a time to talk.
Have a wonderful day!

personally any time i've been on hormone b.c. i has experienced weight gain, and it was impossible for me to shed while on it.
I just read in shape mag. that weight gain due to the pill is not true anymore. this was true about 20 yrs ago but with the new birth controls out there the pill does not have that effect any longer. Also I talked to my doctor about it and she said it's not true anymore. So I guess we are in the same boat with working out and not loosing alot of weight. We just have to keep trying but I don't know about you but it's getting on my nerves.
Good luck! I know I need it.
I had Mirena IUD pu in also (april of 07) I havent had any problems with it - but then again, I havent really pushed myself with the exercise thing. but I have maintained my weigh since having my son in Feb 07. I would re-read the side effects and talk to your doctor about any issues you may have.
My first question to you has to be how have you modified your diet. That could be part of the problem. Hard to say without more information though!
Anything "unnatural" that goes into your body can cause weird side effects...
If you want to talk more about your diet, I can help!

I've never had the IUD but I did want to remind you that muscle weighs more than fat. You've been working out a lot and eating healthy so you are probably losing fat but building muscle so you may not notice weight change.
Hello J.,
Yes, it is a possibility that the hormones in the IUD are causing weight gain or a difficulty in losing weight. That is one of the side effects of the birth control pill.
Have you ever considered natural family planning? My late husband and I taught it for 20 years. If used correctly, it is up to 99% effective. It also helps the marital relationship with communication and mutual respect. If you're interested, check out www.ccli.org

I didn't think there were any hormones in the Mirena?? I also have one but haven't had any weight gain issues. Maybe I didn't do enough reading about it because I got it specifically because I didn't want any hormones. Maybe I should reconsider.
i have talked to doctors about taht myself and they have said that the mirena does not have enough hormones to make you gain weight. there is a booklet that explains everything all you have to do is ask your doctor most of them usually have one
I have not had any problems with weight gain. I had the Mirena put in Novemeber of 2006. I work out five days a week and eat a well rounded vegetarian diet. I think that my weight is where it should be. The amount of hormone that is released is so low, maybe you are not getting enough rest or things are too hectic around your house. That can throw your body off track! Good luck
I know that every birth control i have ever been on has caused me to gain water weight because as soon as i stopped taking it i would immediately lose almost 10 pounds!
