I was wondering if any of you ladies out there has a milk allergy, or is lactose intolerant? I would like to know the difference between the two, and how you found out what was wrong? I have milk with my tea every morning, but I have a bowl of cereal on top of it or drink a cup of chocolate milk, I get cramps, and with the half hour I have to go to the bathroom. Yesterday morning I had two bowls of cereal, a cup of tea and drank the milk out of the bowl. I had the worst cramps all day, so bad I could barely breath in. also, and at the risk of TMI I had wicked gas the rest of the day, but couldn't not get rid of the bloating crampy feeling. So I was just looking for some information from you knowledgeable women.

What can I do next?

I dont have a milk allergy bbut my Daughter does, My husband is lactose intolarant. She is allergic to the Cow Protein in milk and shes not able to digest it by herself. Pluse she is lactose intolarant just like her dad!! Cow protein is so hard to digest!! So that could be the problem. So they drink LACTADE Milk, it tastes like regular milk. and its easier to digest.

What you're describing is not an allergy to milk. That usually shows up as eczema or other similar allergy symptoms. I would check into lactose intolerance, though. I don't know anything about it, but what you describe sounds more like that. Hope you feel better soon!

Milk is hard to digest. I think you will feel a lot better if you just cut it out of your diet. With my second pregnancy I found that drinking milk made my tongue break out in blisters. I stopped and now I notice if I eat a bowl of cereal with milk I feel very drained and even a little nauseous. Goat's milk doesn't have the lactose, soy milk is a little harder to tolerate, and some people make their own almond milk. Here is a recipe:

It is hard at first to cut milk out of your diet. I have been at it for 4 years. But I like the benefits for me and my children. They especially are sick less often and we have never had an ear infection. Never.

If you are concerned about calcium, read this article:

Good luck!

Hi A.,

I am allergic to milk. But, I also notice as I have hit 40, I also am mildly lactose intolerant. As a child I would have eczema, rashes on legs and forarm mostly. If it was real bad, around my mouth. What you discribe is more lactose intolerant. Try soy or rice milk, these might help.

I have two children that lactose intolerant and they have the same problem with all dairy products. They have found alternative calcium sources. Every once in a while they do ice cream and they need to be near a bathroom.

You could do soy milk or rice milk as subsitutes. There are also medications to take to help digest milk.
Good Luck,

It sounds to me like lactose intolerance. I have the exact same problem. It hasn't always been there it started after my first was born. It has been somewhat devastating because I love dairy. Get some lactaid pills, they even have chewables. Take them with your fisrt bite of dairy. If it takes you more than a half hour to eat yor dairy, you might have to take some more. I usually take two, my dad takes three. If you end up taking more than two or three, talk to a doctor. Save some mony and get the generic, it works just as well as the other. Try it for awhile and see if it works. You'll want to cary some with you in your purse or something, that way you always have them on hand for those last minute dairy cravings. You don't want to end up at Wendy's wanting a frosty and not have your pills. I also cut back a little on my dairy intake, the pills can get expensive. Also, try som soy milk. I love the chocolate, I drinkl it instead of chocolate milk. I know they have other soy products you coud substitute with, I don't know what they taste like, I have a hard time finding them.

Sounds more like intolerance. Try getting lactaid or one of those OTC that helps digest dairy. I am a huge dairy lover and if I eat anything with dairy after 4pm (not sure why this time of day) I am bloated, crampy and gassy sometimes when I go to bed. I just go with it as I love dairy too much to give it up. It doesn't happen to me during the day but in the evenings.
Allergy is more severe and ongoing, you would have known I believe. It never hurts to have your Dr give you a test, or try going without a few days and see if it stops, my suggestion too is to try the dairy digestive OTC stuff to help you eliminate the gassy feeling if that doesn't work it may be allergies.

Pasteurized milk really is not good to drink. Pasteurization kills all enzymes in the milk that are there to help your body digest the protien, minerals and vitamins. Pasteurization alters the lactose and makes it easily absorbable. Raw milk is so good for you! There are farms all over that sell it. Check online for one near you. The Weston A. Price Foundation has a list of farms and other good info.

my husband is lactose intolerant. he gets the lactose free milk. also something that has helped is a probiotic that keeps your digestive system healthy. it helps with gas and all sorts of other digestive issues like heartburn, acid reflux, gas, etc. i take one/day and it's a miracle how much better you feel and how you stay healthier and don't get sick as often either. i take a probiotic called Florify. love it and definitely recommend it to everyone!
