Does anyone know a way to get Microsoft word cheap? I really do not need any of the other office programs just word. We just purchased a new lab top and didn't have it put on when we purchased the computer. I have googled it and found that it about $100 +/- for the entire office, but like I mentioned I really just need word.

TIA

As someone that sells it, the student version is the only way you're going to get it legally, and cheaply.
If you know a student or someone that works for a school...you may be able to buy it as part of their licensing agreement.

Do you absolutely need Office? There are several open source and free options available (that do export in .docx format).
OpenOffice and Google Docs are two well known options.

I'd save myself the $100 if at all possible!

Most open source are compatible with word. Unless you are in college with very specific majors, and heck it may be specific colleges too, that is the cheapest you can do.

Office is pretty price fixed. You're not going to get too much of a discount unfortunately. Costco has the best price we found, that's where we got ours from when we needed it. We do use all of Office, not just Word.
Be careful buying used copies off of ebay and such as they might not be licensed or the code may be invalid or stolen. There is a large underground problem with license code sharing, which isn't legal and can find yourself out money and a non-working program.

I see MaMaDuck already suggested it, but I was going to suggest the same. My boss introduced me to it.

Are you a student, a teacher or have a student in your household? If so, you could probably get the Student version which does not have all the bells and whistles of full Office.

I don't know online options. My daughter has a MacBook Pro and I don't know what office functions are on it. One thing we did learn.... she had been using a lot of Power Point for projects at school. Then, they were told about an online thing called Prezy which is for presentations, etc and she used that until she googled herself and located her projects online.. just a thought.
