So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone for all their information it was very helpful. I did talk to one of the nurses at my dr's facility, and they informed me to make an immediate appt. And she also said it would be best to maybe buy a brace for both hands just for now so it's doesnt get any worse. She really couldn't tell me anything though so i'll have to wait for the dr. Once again thank you all very much.

You did not state if it's in your hand or foot...However, since you do repetataive work it seems it would be highly normal. If it's in the hand, try wearing a brace similar to one worn for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome while not at work. If in the foot, elevate as much as possible and wear good supportive flat shoes. Since you are pregnant, there isn't a lot of meds to take and extra strength tylenol is ok. Talk to your Ob/Gyn for further advice and he/she may refer you to an Orthopaedic. I've worked in Ob/Gyn for 23 years and this is usually what we recommend. Good Luck!

E.,

When I was pregnant, I started making the hormone relaxin a little early. This is the hormone that loosens the joints so that your body can expand and get that kid out when it comes time. From about the middle of my pregnancy and fo a few months after, I would have the worst pain in my pubic bone. It felt like someone kicked me. My mom had the same issue, but she was worse in that it sometimes dislocated (very painful) and she couldn't lift her legs into the car (at the time a trans am) without using her arms. I worked at Starbucks for the first 6 mos. and then at the post office encoding computer images for the rest. My feet, ankles, hands, and wrists all hurt from the repetitive motions. My back hurt all the time and as I progresses, my back would go out of alignment easier and easier. BUT, all of this is not harmful to the baby, which is most important. It is an inconvenience for us, but OK for the little one.

Take care and take it easy!

Per Wikipedia: The metacarpus is the intermediate part of the hand skeleton that is located between the fingers distally and the carpus which forms the connection to the forearm.

I am not a doctor, but from what I can remember of being pregnant, EVERYTHING hurts at some point. It probably is nothing to worry about but I STRONGLY recommend talking to your PCG (primary care physician) if it hasn't cleared up in the next week. If you already have an appointment with your OB/GYN, then just go ahead and ask him/her, but if not call your PCG and ask whether you should be concerned. My doc often will answer my concerns without me needing to come in for an appointment.

Hope it clears up soon! -Janell-

yes very normal has to do with swelling and the loosening of muscles and tendons. Your body releases a hormon to make your muscles relax and become elastic and that is no good for your back nd your wrists. I had to wear a brace on my right wrist at night to keep it from getting too bad because most people flex their wrist in while sleeping and that puts stress on it. I don't have any problems now. Sorry... Good luck and congrats!

Hello,
I know that when i was pregnant (both times) my hands would hurt when i'd wake up in the morning and get tight during the day. Part of it is your blood volume has gone up, so you are more fluid filled, so you swell easier, plus i know i sleep with my hand above my head or near it so the flow wasn't ideal. but soon enough everything will hurt. you'll spread so you hips and legs hurt your back hurt becasue it arches more and your ribs hurt becasue the baby takes up so much room and your organs have no place to go but up and back.. It's all fine so long as you don't balloon up . if that happens later in your pregnancy you need to make an apt and get seen. but just take a tylonel and stay hydrated and you'll learn to deal it'll all be over soon. but if it conserns you you shoul dhave an advice line to the delivery floor or your doctor. leave a message or come in . It's their job you make you feel better and answer you questions

Hello E.,
I am also assuming it is your hands/wrists that hurt. It is more than likely related to the excess of the hormone relaxin that it is being released in your body as well as other pregnancy related hormones. I am a chiropractor (in Las Vegas) I would suggest seeing one since it will also help you tremendously during your pregnancy. I have a very good friend that practices in Brea. Let me know if you would like her information, I highly recommend her.
Take care.

I had to look that one up. LOL Yes, it is normal for your wrists to hurt while you are pregnant. It isn't unusual for women to develop carpal tunnel syndrome while they are pregnant. You are carrying around a lot of extra fluid and your tissues swell.

That sounds possible. My hands were often numb when pregnant, and when that happened, the metacarpus did hurt. My doctor said the numbing would cease after delivery.
