Did anyone else lose tons and tons of hair a few months after giving birth? Does anyone know if there's a way to stop this or at least slow it down? I don't have an abundance of hair to begin with so I'm starting to worry I'll have nothing left!

What can I do next?

Oh God yes!! My son was born in March and starting in July my hair started coming out everywhere. Especially when I wash, comb or run my fingers threw it. I feel like I'm gonna go bald soon and its everywhere. I've read that its natural and is due to hormomal changes and your hair will eventually return to normal but my hair was never as thick as it was before my first child. But it will eventually stop falling out in clumps. I don't know how to stop it but I try not to mess with my hair too much.Sorry I don't have any solid answers, good luck.

Hi C.,

I too had lots of hair issues after having my children. It's common. When pregnant you hair and nails grow and don't "shed" as easily due to the hormones and vitamins. However, after birth it's common to "shed" all that hair that was hanging around during pregnancy.

I lost tons of hair after my first child but it eventually slowed. I remember it being pretty upsetting. With my second child I also lost lots of hair but also my hair went very limp and became increasingly greasy and itchy. I ended up seeing a dermatologist and found out I had a case of dandruff (never really saw flakes but, i guess they were build up on my scalp) - after using some over the counter dandruff shampoo for a couple of months my looks better then ever!

I would consult with you ob first to calm your fears but, if you still feel uncomfortable with the rapid hair loss I suggest seeing a dermatologist to get a clear picture of whether something else is going on.

Hi C.,

After my 3yr old was born I started losing tons of my hair!! Freaked me out a lot!! It went on for a good several months and stopped when my son was about 16 months or so. I am not sure if there is anything to slow it down or stop it. Maybe you could talk to your doctor about it?
