Hello,
I have always wanted to make these 2 things and was wondering if any of you had some recipes that are good! I love Oregon Trail Chai Tea, and as far as hummus I like it either plain or with garlic.
We have Health Food stores around here so I could probably get ingredients there!
Thanks!

What can I do next?

I like creamier and less garlicky hummus, so I like to make my own.

I tend to find a "standard" recipe (can garbanzos, tahini, garlic, lemon, olive oil) and decrease the tahini by a little, decrease the garlic by a lot, increase the lemon and olive oil by a bit. Throw it in the food processor and blend. Sprinkle paprika on top (it does wonders). I also like to serve it with chopped tomato on top.

Hummus is just garbanzo beans, tahini (sesame paste), lemon juice, and olive oil.

Not sure about the hummus but here are some different ideas to make chai tea:
1. buy black spice chai tea or black english breakfast tea from the store - boil water, add 2 little individual containers of half n half and raw sugar.
2. Get loose tea (not leaves but granules) - availlable at Indian stores. Boil 1 cup water with a couple of table spoons of whole milk, 1 tsp of tea granules, crushed ginger, little bit of cinnamon power, 2 crushed cloves and fennel powder. let it boil a couple a times and then strain the hot liquid into a cup.
Enjoy!

I use this recipe for making hummus -
http://mideastfood.about.com/od/appetizerssnacks/r/hummus...

I thin it out a little more, drizzle olive oil and some paprika over it and let it sit in the fridge for at least an hr or two before serving. And I discovered it is better to make smaller amounts, as it doesn't store too very well. I use any leftovers within a day or so.

Actually, I can give you the Indian version of how we make Chai tea. You can get Black tea dust from any Indian/Asian store. Here's for 1 cuppa -
Boil slightly less than 1 cup of water with some crushed ginger in it (abt 1/4" piece).
When it is actually boiling, add ~1tsp back tea dust. Allow it to boil for another minute.
You can add more flavors to it at this point - cardamom & clove are 2 of the most commonly used spices in India, in Chai. (You can get them in the
Indian Store as well).
Remove from heat and strain. It tastes best with some cream and sugar.

Hummas is easy. A can of chickpeas, a tablespoon of olive oil, cumin, and garlic to taste, puree in a blender.

For the Chai Tea:
The brand "Tazo" actually sells a carton of it, (the Tazo Chai Tea Latte Concentrate), to then mix yourself with milk.
This is what it looks like:
http://www.starbucksstore.com/tazo-chai-tea-latte-concent...

I have bought it from Barnes & Noble, in their cafe.
I don't know what the "Oregon Trail Chai Tea" is, but the Tazo brand Chai Tea, is basically the same drink, that the cafe sells and even Starbucks.
It tastes very good.
Even Costco, sells this in a pack of 3 cartons. For a very inexpensive price. I have seen it at my local Costco.
Me and my family love Chai Tea. And this is what I use and buy.

Oh here, Oregon Trail actually sells their Chai Tea mix online:

For chai tea, I've been using Bigelow lately since I've had coupons and been catching them on sales. There's a vanilla chai flavor that they have that's lovely.

I boil 2 quarts of water and pour it into a pitcher with 4 teabags, leaving about an inch and a half of space from the very top of the pitcher. I steep it for a minimum of 20 minutes. I remove the teabags with a slotted spoon and drain them into the pitcher. I add about 3/4 cup of sugar (not artificial sweetener due to intolerance). Stir well to dissolve sugar. Then add your milk until it reaches almost the top, but not so high that you can't put the lid on the pitcher. Stir well. If you want it to cool quickly, stick it in the freezer for a while at the same time that you put ice in the freezer. When the ice is frozen, move the pitcher to the fridge but check the pitcher after two hours to make sure it's cold and not frozen. ;-) You'll have THE BEST iced chai ever. This recipe also works for vanilla caramel tea that's made with black tea leaves.

I do a modified, mini version of that in my mug when I want hot chai.

I've never made hummus, sorry.

I make my own hummus. Can o'chick peas, rinsed. A couple teaspoonfuls of tahini, some garlic, cumin, cayenne, lemon juice, and I blend up roasted red pepper into mine as well. I tried the sweet potato hummus and did not care for it, but my sweet tooth is nonexistent. You can put spinach in hummus as well.

I ALWAYS make my own hummus. It is easy (I use canned chick peas) and fast and is so so so much better than store bought.

I omit the scallions and tamari and do use the food processor. It is very garlicky the second day. It is way better with fresh lemon juice than with purchased.

Yes, sometimes I make my own hummus, it is much cheaper to make your own. Since a few recipes have been posted already, I wanted to suggest making sweet potato hummus. It is fantastic! The recipe I have used is at http://www.wearenotmartha.com/2011/04/sweet-potato-hummus/.

Hummus is super easy. Garbanzo beans, tahini, lemon juice, cumin, garlic, and some salt (to taste) and water to thin it out. All items go in the food processor for a minute or so. Google the recipe on line and follow the proportions for the ingredients. I make this all the time and it is nutritious, easy, and tastey.
