Mailing Lots of Clothes

I did the same thing for my neice in Atlanta. It's funny because I assumed UPS ground would be much cheaper than the PO but I did not find that to be the case. Not sure if it matters where you're mailing from/to but I actually found the PO to be a little cheaper. Also... when my sister comes to visit she packs an extra bag to take home with clothes. That was before you paid for bags on airplanes but even still... it would be less than mailing!

I would do UPS ground, as it's both trackable and affordable when the boxes are large/heavy. If you go to their website, you can get an idea of price if you plug in the weight and service. There are many UPS stores around, or local businesses like Staples and such have pickups I believe. Postal will cost you a mint, as you have noticed.

$40 seems like a lot unless it is heavy stuff like shoes, or unless you are getting delivery confirmation and insurance. I would weigh the boxes at home (get on the scale by yourself, then with the boxes) and then go to the websites of the USPS and UPS to estimate. You can go to places like Mailboxes Etc. but I think they charge a fee on top of the shipping. If you have a UPS center near you, that might be your best bet. Be sure to ask USPS or UPS for the cheapest way - "cheap and slow" is what I tell them. It's not like your sister needs it in 2 days. Remember that gas prices are way up, so things just cost more. If you aren't positive she will use everything you are sending, you might be better off sending her the best stuff and donating the rest locally for a tax deduction.
