My son is starting Kindergarten on Tuesday and I'm looking for packed lunch ideas for him. The school is asking for no peanut butter, so pb&j is out. I bought him a thermos that is supposed to keep food warm for something like 10 hours- so I may experiment with some pasta. He also likes sandwiches. Any other ideas from you experienced moms out there? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Pack what he likes.
Otherwise, many kids at school, do not even eat, even if they are hungry.
I know... I volunteer at the cafeteria at my kid's school, and see this all the time.

Just pack what he likes.
Does not have to be fancy nor a gourmet buffet.
Also have him bring a water bottle to school.
Label everything with a Sharpie pen, with his initials.

My son, just liked having sandwiches, everyday.
That is what he ate and liked. He never got tired of it.
He ate.
That is the main thing.
Otherwise, he will not eat and going all day without food in their tummy from breakfast time, is not good for a child. Nor for their energy levels or concentration ability in school.

Just ask your son, what he likes and will, eat.
Before you 'experiment' with the pasta, make it at home... and see IF he eats it. Then if he does, you can send it to school as an option.

You can send almost anything--leftovers, mini bagel with cream cheese, sometimes I give my son a tortilla--you can fill it with beans and cheese, or cream cheese and jelly, the possibilities are endless. And even though pb isn't allowed, you can do sunflower butter, which tastes similar to pb, but is allergy free. Trader Joe's sells one that's good and affordable. Sometimes I do sunflower butter and jelly. Also, if other nuts are allowed, almond butter is good, and has calcium.

I never sent thermos food, I always sent sandwiches. Peanut butter was allowed, but they also took cold cuts/cheese. I always sent sandwiches and didn't feel tons of variety was needed, it was okay to send the same thing twice in a week

I'm going to be packing healthy snacks with no sandwich. Example: Graham crackers, string cheese, applesauce, and trail mix. Think this is ok?

Soup, stew, pasta. My kids would take leftovers from dinner the night before.
