My husband loosing his job has cost us no health insurance, anybody no of a place other than er to take kids to if they get sick?
thank you everyone for your advice, I have already applied for medicaid, but by the time I get that my hubby might have another job with insurance, I cant understand why it takes so long, Ive faxed already twice info they asked for, its ridiculous, im trying to find something in the mean time, im pretty sure the health dept don't see for sick visits, I found this place here in lakeland called lakeland primary health care, they do go by a sliding scale, only prob is they opened up another office in winter haven so there pediatricians are having to cover over there too, so there could be a possibility that if my kids get sick the dr. might not be there that day?

The health Dept, or in Lakeland, there is a place called "LVM" = Lakeland Volunteers in Medicine. It is near the intersection of Memorial Blvd and the road just before Florida Avenue that the hospital is on. I think that they charge based on income. Also the county has insurance that is based on income....Polk Healthcare. Good luck.
ER is for emergency care, and you should NEVER take your child there if they are just sick. You're local health dept. should offer low cost physicals. There are also clinics, check your phone book.
You should talk to your doctor's office and explain the situation. If you're a long time patient they should be willing to work with you and make payment arrangements.
Most states have programs for uninsured children.
We sometimes take ours to urgent cares like the med express or the pediatric after hours (if it's at night). Their rates are lower than a regular doctor and they provide lots of services.
You can try places like minute clinic, urgent cares, and even the health dept. will offer free/low cost visits. You can also call up their regular pediatrician and let them know your circumstances. They might see you at a reduced price too. Good Luck!
Hello!!
Apply for Medicaid or whatever program your state has. Or the county where you reside should have a health clinic w/a sliding scale based on income.

You need to go to the county offices where you can apply for state assistance. If you qualify the kids will get medical cards. If you call the local hospitals and ask, they may have free clinics for low income people. They usually don't make them public knowledge so that they won't be bombarded with everyone in town who wants free medical care.
They can point you in the right direction even if they don't have a free clinic.
look into at least getting your kids on medicaid and you may have some more choices as to where you can take your kids when they're sick or even their well visits
