Low Cost Treatment Options for Depression in DFW

My coworker is looking to me for answers. Call me resident Guru. :) She has no insurance and is going through a divorce. She is battling a bad bout of depression and has been having anxiety attacks. I suggested MHMR, but I think that might be distasteful. Are there any other low cost mental health options to be seen and given necessary prescriptions that you know of?

What can I do next?

You might try some churches in the area. They often have people who will meet for free.

T. - first, let me encourage you to have her attend a local DivorceCare ministry. If she has children (5-12) she should also consider a church that has DC4K. Our church, Church on Rush Creek in Arlington, has a counseling group and I'm sure you will find other churches that do as well. Just talking with others that are going through the same thing can help.

Also try Arlington Urban Ministries to see if they can help. There are also some good homeopathic products that she can try: St. John's Wort, and many more. http://www.depression-homeopathy.com/

Please give her my name and number if she needs more info about DivorceCare: K. ###-###-#### or she can email me at ____@____.com. I can help her find a church close to where she lives.

I have been through Divorce and have been involved with the DivorceCare ministry almost 13 years. She can find out more at www.divorcecare.org

Yes! UT Southwestern - at the Seay building (?) You can see a med student for counseling. You pay a nominal amount. The students are supervised by doctors, and probably pay more attention to your problems than "real" psycologists. If you need a prescription, the doctor can prescribe something.

You would need to call and get set up.
