Looking for Parenting a Gradeschooler Book

Hi T.,
I know you didn't ask for books that are gender specific but a couple GREAT books on boys are "Raising Boys :Why Boys Are Different and How To Help Them Become Happy and Well-Balanced Men" and "Raising Cain - Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys". You can find both of these at the library.
It's also really insightful to read books on temperament like "Understanding Your Child's Temperament" especially if you have a second child who doesn't operate like your first! :)
Another great book is How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk.

Be flexable. It changes with every child! Have a notebook in your purse to write down the funny things they say! They are sponges! Teach them very hard concepts- they might get it! Mine does! He asks me about compounded interest and the big dipper...it's a wild ride! Hang on!

There is a series of books called, What your Kindergartener should Know, 1st grader etc. This says what they should be able to do at the end of every year, but it is a good reference. As a teacher, I have found it is a little more advanced than the average kid but good for parents who want some kind of ideas.
Also, ask your district when you go to kindergarten round-up about what they expect.

I have a good friend with school age children who refers to a book called "Yardsticks" on a regular basis. Before getting your question, I had sent her an e-mail to get the author/publisher and to find out if she thinks it is helpful for Kindergarten, as I have a daughter who will be in Kindergarten in the fall. I expect to hear from her tomorrow and will forward on any information I get.
