Two websites to look at - Poof's Closet www.poofscloset.com
and Healing Scents www.healingscents.com (I think) both have some good stuff.
I have a preemie in the NICU who is now big enough to get baths! The hospital uses Johnson and Johnson. I am pretty big on organic/all natural products. The nurse told me I can bring in my own products.
Is there something anyone can recommend? I read on Burt's Bees, but the scent is too strong. Also, Aveeno is not all natural, despite what they say. Thanks!
Two websites to look at - Poof's Closet www.poofscloset.com
and Healing Scents www.healingscents.com (I think) both have some good stuff.
I would go with Dr. Bronners - their baby castile liquid soap and then Shikai baby lotion for the lotion, it's not strong at all.
I used Aubrey Organics from Whole Foods on my preemie - I loved the stuff! Whole Foods should have a good selection for you.
I just received the most comprehensive list that someone has done on personal care products. She has categorized it has fake naturals, fake organics, true naturals and true organics..here is a piece of her list, but if you want it, feel free to reply back with your email address:

Earth Mama Angel Baby has the BEST organic products on the market!
earthmamaangelbaby.com
There is also a website that you can check out for ratings on your favorite organics. Earth Mama Angel Baby products received the highest rating that you can receive on ALL their products. Following is the link to the product database where you can see cosmetic safety reviews.
http://cosmeticdatabase.com/index.php?nothanks=1
I highly recommend Nature's Baby Organics products. They have great products & they smell great, very soft yummy scent. You can find them online & at Babies R Us stores. Here is their website if you want to read up on it: http://www.naturesbabyproducts.com/
It's also rated one of the best as far as having a 0-2 toxicity level in it compared to many other products. I use a great website called cosmeticdatabase.com where it tells you all the ratings on tons of products. You'd be very surprised as to how many baby products out there are not very good for babies. Here is the link to the site I use with the ratings on the Nature's Baby Organics product line: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/wordsearch.php?query=nat...
The only thing that I would be careful if you decide on using the Nature's BAby Organic Shampoo & body wash is that I don't think it's tear proof. I've been using the products for about 1½ years on my 2 yr old daughter & ocassionally it's gotten in her eyes & she complains but once I rinse she's fine. I'm big on using organic stuff on my daughter as well as her food. Anyway, look into the products I mentioned, you may like them.
califonia baby ...its the best..target even has some of the products....i have used the sunscreen and bug spray and like them both. although you wont be using sunscreen for awhile, badger balm makes a great non-toxic sunscreen. it can be found at whole foods. also check out environmental working groups skin deep, safe cosmetics website...http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/index.php?nothanks=1.
at the top you will see several sub-headings...click on which type of products you are looking for and you will see which ones you may be interested in and levels of toxicity. good luck to you and congrats!

I like California baby too and it is very gentle on my son's skin with eczema. Johnson and Johnson is always too rough on my son's skin.
Not sure what area you live in, but if you look at Whole Foods or Fruitful Yield, they have several products. I know Whole Foods carries Weleda, Avalon organics, and Hugo Naturals (for baby). Aubrey organics also carries a baby line. All of these are pretty good products. Some "organic" products still have harsh chemicals in them...I would still read ingredient list. But, as far as I know, the ones I mentioned are pretty good. Many blessings to you and your new baby!
california baby! and good for you !!! Those products are so toxic I cant believe hospitals put them on our babies!
Hello!
Congratulations on having a preemie who is big enough to get baths. What an amazing time for you!!!
I would also check out Shaklee Baby products. While there are a TON of "bad" lists out there, you want a company that will guarantee that there is nothing in there that will harm your sweet little baby. Sounds like you've done your research on things that say that they are natural, when they really aren't.
I used Shaklee's products on my preemie 5 years ago (I WISH the baby line was around back then)! There is also a wonderful massage lotion that would be great for when your baby is ready for a massage.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Congratulations again on your preemie!!

Any health food store has lots of options but Target does sell Weleda Baby(I use this) cheaper than healthfood store and they have Earths Best. I have not tried that, it seemed to strong of a scent too. For lotion I picked up a brand at HFstore called Aubrey Organics. I like it. They had a sample bottle so I did not have to spend tons of money on bigger bottle. Yes, I don't like Aveeno false advertising...
Californai Baby has great products, so does Earth Mama, Angel Baby.
I did not use any soap products on my son for over 4 months because they would dry his skin. Just plain warm water was more than enough. It's not like your baby is playing in mud puddles!
I have had two preemies now. At my last visit, the Dr recommended I use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and the Cream moisturizer because the J and J Head to Toe was too strong on baby's skin. It has made a huge difference. This product is Dermatologist recommended and fragrance free which may have been the cause of my baby's irritation. It isn't organic though.
Good luck and enjoy baby....my second is 10weeks now and thriving!
We use California Baby - can be found target and whole foods.
I use California Baby. I actually have always used the sensitive skin hair and body wash with my daughter even though I don't think she has sensitive skin. There really is no smell to it. I LOVE their products!
Hi there! I'm a Chicago mom and a rep for Arbonne, which is a company that makes natural, plant-based products with no petroleum or animal-derived ingredients. We have a fabulous line of baby products that I use on my own daughter (incl baby wash and baby oil). All of the products are:
• Botanically based and pH correct
• Pediatrician and dermatologist tested
• Non-sensitizing, non-irritating
• Formulated without nut oils
• Tear-free hair and body wash
• Not tested on animals
The majority of our ingredients (80-99%) are organic.
Please check out my website at www.annefogarty.myarbonne.com to see all the products! And feel free to email me at ____@____.com with any questions. Thanks and congratulations on the new addition to your family!
I use a product callled Shaklee Baby. I you want to know more e-mail me at ____@____.com
C. J
what about california baby or little twig?
I am pretty sure that Arbonne has natural baby products. You could e-mail ____@____.com and ask. She lives in Naperville/Lisle area and could get it pretty quickly to you.
when my son was an infant, we used california baby sensitive formula with no scent. it was great and very pure.
i've used some of the arbonne products, though not the baby wash, and been very happy, also.
now that he's older, we use bert's bees because it smells so nice.
i don't recommend the shaklee baby products. i was given some by a friend, and it has all of the same ingredients as johnson and johnson and a heavy scent. i do like their cleaning products, though.
Check out California Baby products - www.californiababy.com. We started using their products a couple years ago and they are wonderful. Target sells some of their products, and so do a lot of organic/natural food stores. Good luck! : )
My favorite soaps are from http://hyenacart.com/EarthMuffin and http://hyenacart.com/Dreamseeds. I know the former has a baby formula bar soap. I'm not positive about the latter but she has amazing herbal-infused soaps and might have something completely natural that would be great as well. Both companies are run by moms and their soaps are cold process and handmade with great (incl. many organic) ingredients.
I only used California Baby products on my three kids. All of my kids have sensitive skin and mild eczema. CB's products are all natural and they offer a sensitive skin bubble bath that I used on my kids. They also have great lotions too that are for sensitive skin. They helped with all of my kids eczema issues as well. You can find their entire line of products at Whole Foods. Good luck!
We used Weleda or Avalon Organics. Both are available from Whole Foods or Fruitful Yield.
And if you aren't familiar, with it, check out safemama.com
They have a cheat sheet with paraben and Phtalate free baby products here: http://safemama.com/2008/02/10/cheat-sheet-paraben-phthal...
It looks like you have had tons of advice - but here is a website that I really like that examines all types of products for families - www.safemama.com
We love Earth Mama Angel Baby products. The hair and bath wash is a foam and smells amazing but not strong at all. All natural, organic and very mild. I swear by it and give it to everyone as baby gifts. You can buy it on the earth mama web site (just google it). Slightly pricey but worth it, you will only use a tiny bit at a time so it will last.
Actually I just sent out a newsletter to my customers about natural and organic products, how so many claim to be organic (like Burt's Bees and many others) but forget to mention that they use only a fraction of organic ingredients. Basically, if a company claims to have 100% organic products, they are most likely in for a lawsuit. Shaklee has a new baby line that is great if you'd like more info. Our gentle wash is 99% natural and has 76% organic ingredients.
K.
Hello,
Certified Organic Miessence baby products are highly recommended.Natural or organic doesn't mean it's all that good, check the label and look for products with USDA certification.
Miesence has 4 organic cerfitications.
visit www.dorothyf.mionegroup.com to see full line of products. shipping takes only few days, and there is no shipping fees and no tax with orders over $100.00.
I also use Shaklee products, there is a new baby line,
www.shaklee.net/totalwellbeing.
Congratulations and good luck!

I love Dr. Bronner's All Natural soap. It's truly all natural, organic and free trade and they make it for babies!
Hope this helps. This is a list from a friend of mine. Go organic, even if it is more costly or make your own. Please contact me if you have any questions or are interested in info on how to make your own body products that are affordable and safe!
M. R.
Here's a list from one of my Organic Moms groups, it's a list of so called natural and organic products, most are "fake" companies, so double check your Body care products, unfortunately 95% of my stuff is fake, all the effort and money spent down the drain. So now I have to start all over again.
Body care is not a regulated industry.
The USDA Organic regulations/laws only extend to food items or body care items that are food grade.
Because of lax regulations a body care company can use the word "Natural" any way they want, regardless of if they threw in chemicals and synthetics to the final product.
A company can only use the word Organic (as in the product name, etc) on the front of their packaging if the product contains at least 70% organic ingredients
For a company to display a label that reads "Made with Organic ingredients" the product must carry 70% or more organics with no restrictions on the other ingredients.
For a company to display the USDA organic label, it must have 95% or higher organic ingredients with the other 5% being from an approved list.
To carry the new Natural Products Association Label the natural product must only contain pre-approved naturally derived ingredients.
The Eco-Cert label has fallen under scrutiny lately, for allowing synthetics in products (which is against it's own rules) with many interest groups now not trusting the integrity of the EcoCert logo.
The list is just below this last paragraph!
If you work for a company on my fake list and you are mad i put you there, contact your company and yell at them, not me. I did my research thoroughly and read ingredient labels carefully. It took me HOURS & Months to put together this list. I also work in the industry and am VERY familiar with many of these companies. (I've worked in the health and wellness field for over 6 yrs)
THE LIST:
Fake Organics: These companies use synthetics and sometimes very little organics in their finished product. The ingredient names follwoing the brand name are examples of the exact toxic ingredients these companies use, that landed them on my No No list and the USDA Organic regulations do not condone use of. You won't see the USDA Organic logo on any of these brands, yet, they still try to trick the uneducated public into believing they are an "organic" product by calling their brand name " ____ organic".
Alba Botanica - Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone, Octinoxate , Oxybenzone, Peg-100, Sodium PCA, etc.
Avalon Organics - Cocamidopropyl betaine, Phenoxyethanol, Disodium oleamido succinate, Sodium PCA, Octinoxate, Oxybenzone, etc.
Babywise Organics - Octyl Palmitate (I'm finding this to be another name for Dimethicone..correct me if I'm wrong), Retinyl Palmitate , Phenoxyethanol, Ceteareth-20, Dimethicone, Cocamidopropyl Betaine , Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, etc.
Derma E Organic Expressions - PEG-7, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Dimethicone, Peg-175, PEG-200, Phenoxyethanol, Hexylene Glycol, etc.
Giovanni Organics - PVP (which is vinyl), PEG-40, Polysorbate 60, Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, Octylmethoxycinnamate, Diazolidinyl Urea, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Cocamphodiacetate, PEG-8, etc,
Head Organics - PEG-7, PVP (which is vinyl), Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Cetrimonium Chloride, etc.
J ason pure natural organic - Cocamide MEA, Polyquaternium-7, Propylene Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Dimethicone,
Juice Beauty - Retinyl palmitate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexyl (octyl) palmitate, Cocamidopropyl betaine. Only 4 of over 30 products actually carry the USDA Organic logo, all other 30+ products do not. To me having only 4 certified products, does not make you an organic company.
Kiss My Face Organics - Phenoxyethanol (funny their adverts claim they are "Obsesivly Organic". HA! Really?)
Lotus Touch organic & natural - PEG-100 Stearate, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Retinyl Palmitate, Bisabolol,
Mill Creek Organics a.k.a. Amazon Organics - Cocamidopropyl betaine, Octyl dimethyl PABA, Acrylates copolymer,
Natures Gate Organics - Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, PEG-120, Avobenzone, Octinoxate, Octisalate, Octocrylene, Oxybenzone, PEG-100, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, PVP, Dimethiconol,
Organix - Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide DEA, Dimethicone, (Behentrimonium 2 of 4 are toxic, they don't notate which of the 4 types they are using..so this one is iffy), Tetrasodium EDTA, Methylchloroisothiazolinone , Methylisothiazolinone, etc.
Organix South Inc, a.k.a. Thera Neem - Sodium Acrylates Copolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Lauramide DEA, PEG-7, PEG-40,
Pharmacopia Organic - Phenoxyethanol; Chlorphenesin, Cocamidopropyl betaine
Sexy Hair Organics. i can't find even 1 website online, including the company website, that lists the ingredients. next time i'm at the mall i will jot them down, this is where i
Fake Naturals: These companies claim they are natural, safe, part of wellness, or pure; but use toxic synthetics in their products. The words Natural, Pure, & Safe have no regulations guiding their use. Any company can make these claims regardless to if the claim is true or not.
365 by Whole Foods (so confusing to me at to why their body care products contain junk ingredients).
Alba - Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone, Octinoxate , Oxybenzone, Peg-100, Sodium PCA, etc.
Arbonne - Cocamidopropyl Betaine Coconut , PEG-80, Peg-120, Retinyl Palmitate, Triethanolamine, Phenoxyethanol , Hexylene Glycol , etc. (their baby line is horribly toxic).
Arm & Hammer Essentials Deodorant - propylene glycol, tricolsan, (they test on animals, this alone is enough to boycott them)
Aveda -
Aveeno - Dimethicone, Petrolatum, Distearyldimonium Chloride, PEG-80, Trisodium EDTA, PEG-150, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate
The Body Shop - PEG-100, Parabens (1 product alone had 5 different types of parabens), EDTA, Yellow #5, Red #4, PEG-8, Cocamide DEA, Dimethicone, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide DEA, Phenoxyethanol, PEG-18, PVP
Derma E - Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Phenoxyethanol, Retinyl Palmitate, Dimethyl MEA , PEG-100, Cocamide DEA
Earth Science - Phenoxyethanol, Retinyl Palmitate, Dimethicone, benzophenone-3
Healthy Times baby line - Parabens
Huggies/Pamper naturals. "Yeah, right." yes that was sarcasim
Jackson Reece Herbal baby wipes - cocamidoproyl betaine, phenoxyethanol
Kiss my Face - Trisodium EDTA, Retinyl Palmitate, Phenoxyethanol, Octinoxate, Oxybenzone, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Propylene glycol, Triethanolamine.
Korres Natural Products - Propylparaben, Methylparaben, PEG- 8, Aluminium Oxide, PEG-100, Phenoxyethanol, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben, Methylparaben, PEG-60, Phenoxyethanol, Propylene Glycol (one product had 5 parabens & pheno. That's just ludacris)
Lush - Triethanolamine, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, (this company is at least 1/2 honest...when listing their ingredients, they color code the natural & synthetic so it's easy to read, but they call them "safe synthetics", I have to disagree)
Melaleuca - Dimethicone, PEG - 100, Phenoxyethanol, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Avobenzone, Ostisalate, Octinoxate, Octocyrlene, EDTA, Triethanolamine, PEG-7, PEG-60,
Method - Cocamidopropyl betaine, Methylisothiazolinone, Sodium lauryl sulfate, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Cocamide DEA, retinyl palmitate, (gets sneaky & shady by not disclosing the name of their preservatives or what type of color they use. it just says "preservative" "color")
Mill Creek Botanicals - Disodium-EDTA, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide DEA, Imidazolidinyl Urea
Nature's Gate - Phenoxyethanol, PEG-100, Butylene Glycol, Triethanolamine, Cocamide DEA, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Disodium EDTA, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Octinoxate; Oxybenzone, Dimethicone

Shaklee - Phenoxyethanol, Didodium EDTA, Octinoxate, Octisalate, Oxybenzone, PEG-10, Dimethicone, AMMONIUM LAURETH SULFATE, SODIUM LAURYL SULFOACETATE, COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE, PEG-12, RETINYL PALMITATE
Tom's of Maine - SLS, Proplyene Glycol
Zia - Phenoxyethanol, Octinoxate, Oxybenzone, Octisalate,

Hit & Miss/ Murky Companies. These companies have some products that are really clean and other products that are not. Read Labels and know what you are choosing before you spend the $$. be on the look out for: Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone, Disodium EDTA, PEG's, Parabens, Urea, Propylene Glycol, Cocamidopropyl Betaine...if those are in it, stay away.
Aura Cacia - Very Hit and Miss. Their certified organic line of esseintial oils are the bomb though, VERY high grade and very clean!
Bare Minerals - I found Dimethicone in 1 product out of about 12 that I researched. Seems they have taken out most of their nasty ingredients. I used to have them on my fakers list.
Beeceuticals - some products carry the USDA logo, other products have phenoxyethanol in the ingredients. I have spoken with the owner of the company and they are working on an enzyme based presevative to replace the pheno. so be on the look out for this positive change.
Burt's Bees - the good thing, is each product tells you on the front of the bottle exactly what % it is natural. they are a pretty clean company. there's not much i would shy away from.
Desert Essence - again a truly hit or miss. mostly miss. mostly on my fakers list with the exception of their pure oils and castile face soap, essential oils; those are truly natural and some even organic
Eco-Bella. All of their body care is 100% clean, but their cosmetic line still carries several ingredients of concern, including parabens.
EO - Phenoxyethanol, Retinyl Palmitate, Dimethicone; mostly on my fakers list, though their lip balm is really organic
Honey Bee Gardens
Have you looked into Shaklee? I know they are natural and I know a consultant who I could recommend you too. She is very knowledgable on her products and would be honest with you on if the product is right for your baby. If you want her number let me know. She lives in Cary, IL
Hi F. U
Try melaleuca products for kids. Its all natural, no harsh chemicals. Check my websites at http://shahinaali.webs.com and http://yestosuccess.net/shahinaali. It is my business but you don't have to do it as business. You can just be a customer. They have great, ecofriendly products.
S.
I personally like the Weleda baby products for my kids. My oldest has very sensitive skin, and the Weleda products are the only ones I have tried that have not irritated his skin. I like the Weleda Calendula Shampoo and Body Wash, the Calendula Baby Lotion, and the Calendula Soap. All the Weleda products are natural, plant-based, and organic. You can check them out at www.weleda.com, and then look under the "Baby Care" product line.
Hope that helps a little bit!! Congrats and enjoy those baby baths!
J.
I like "California Baby". They have a fragrance free baby wash. You can get it at Target. It is kind of expensive, but you don't have to use alot.
My daughter has Very sensitive skin so I use that as well as Burt's Bees baby wash. I like both.
I also really like Earth Mama Angel Baby products. http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/
I highly recommend looking into Arbonne products. I use them on my son and love them. I do not sell them, but I am sure you can find a distributor by going on to their website. Often, I just get my Arbonne on ebay. If you do that, just be certain to make sure the product is fresh.
Best wishes!
California Baby is great. No allergens, either. Burt's is full of potential nut allergy causing things, and Cetaphil has almond oil or something which is believed to be one of the reasons kids are getting so many nut allergies. Nuts are in tons of skin products so try not to expose to nuts until after age 2.
I highly recommend California Baby and Little Twig. Both are organically based and have lines that are unscented. Mertz Apothecary carries both, and you can find California Baby in a lot of stores, including Target. Good luck!
We like Earth's Best, made by J/A/S/O/N. Also, Method makes one (but I'm not wild about the scent). California babies is supposed to be good (but expensive). We have nut allergies in the family, and these are the only natural baby soaps (besides Burt's Bees) that don't contain nuts. You could also check out your local Whole Foods and ask someone who works there.
