Looking for OB for Fertility Issues

I'm looking for an OB doctor who is open to fertility treatments other than the usual hormones and sonograms. I've been trying to conceive since September and have done 2 months of hormones. I read/skimmed Taking Charge of Your Fertility and that has helped me mentally with this whole thing. Since the end of February I've been charting my basal temperature and it seems that my luteal phase is short, and my thyroid is underactive (blood tests don't confirm the thyroid issue- my blood tests normal). This would be my second pregnancy, so I know it is possible for me to get pregnant. I'm not sure how open my current OB doctor would be to this method or to what I think I've figured out so far, but I do intend to ask. I have not gone to a fertility specialist yet (that still scares me!). Have any of you ever had an OB who suggested tracking temperatures or who has been receptive to you after doing so? I live in Flower Mound, and my current OB is in Grapevine, so I don't mind driving a little bit for a good doctor.

Thanks for your suggestions, this is my first time to post a question!

So What Happened?

Well I got pregnant on my own, never went to a fertility doc. Thanks for all of your responses and support, I think that made a difference for me too. I just kept charting according to FAM and also realized that I was probably confusing eggwhite for sticky CM, and finally ovulated on day 65 or so. Keep your fingers crossed for me that the next 9 months go smoothly!

I can only recommend a specialist, but I do know they are very open to how you want to work on getting pregnant. Dr Sy Q Le and Dr Derek Haas in Irving. Their practice is Advanced Reproductive Care Center in Irving- ###-###-####.
I have PCOS and was placed on clomid with my OB, after 2 attempts, my Dr suggested them, because my Dr knew I wanted to get pregnant, and my Dr & his wife used these Drs. After 2 attempts, I got pregnant with my daughter. Now, after treatment by OB with clomid (although he referred me again- thinking it didn't work), we are expecting boy/girl twins... Dr Haas & Dr Le & staff are wonderful. They were very patient & explained everything. They knew I did not want to do IVF or IUI, so they understood I wanted to take it slow.

Hope this helps.

I went To Dr. Sy Q Le in Los Colinas. He is an actual fertility doctor, but very hands on and affordable. I put off going thinking we could not afford it, but surrisingly we could. We are now 33 weeks pregnant with twins through chlomid and an IUI. If you need more information let me know. He also helped another friend of ours get pregnant with a donor egg.

Good Luck!

I think it took me 2 years to get pregnant with #3, and the reason I finally did was because a friend gave me Taking Charge of your Fertility and I did the chart and basal temp thing. If you only skimmed the book, I'd recommend really reading it. You may not need a specialist, you may just need to really pay attention to your timing an watch for the signs of fertility. I seemed to have a really long time between ending my period and ovulting, and even went 3 months without ovulating before I got on medicine to encourase it and get back on track. Don't give up hope! If you've been pregnant once before and you know it's not that, then it is most likely timing.

I don't know about my dr and infertility issues. I go to Dr. Dooley in Denton and she is great. If you are using temperature and mucous - Dr. McDonald and Dr. Plinkton in Denton are NFP only dr so they focus and using your natural fertility signs. Don't despare! I tried for an entire year to get pregnant with my 3rd - she died at birth unexpectably and then it took me 10 more months to get pregnant - ectopic pregnancy - then I got pregnant 6 weeks after that and my precious baby was born in August of 2008. I know this was not my timing but it was God's timing and I know HE must have big plans for my son. I know it is hard when you are in the middle of it.

I don't know about my OB but all 3 of my boys were achieved via IVF and prayers. Feel free to contact me for details. I used Dr. Barnett and the ARTS program at Presby Plano.

I too have low thyroid. I too put off going to a fertility specialist. I bought the book too thinking I could fix my problem. My problem was hormonal. I recommend seeing my fertility specialist Dr. Kaufmann at Harris Methodist Hospital. He can give you the answers you need. He is the best doctor I've ever had in my entire life. Please go and make an appointment with him. Don't worry about him being a male doctor if that concerns you. I did too and then afterward I got to know him I didn't want to see my ob and wanted him to deliver my son! I also recommend acupunture to help with your fertility. (Don't let the needles scare you; getting blood drawn or a shot hurts much worse. I have a needle phobia and it didn't bother me.) Emily Mueller-Kuentz works closely with Dr. Kaufmann and they are a great team. She is at the Center for Natural Healing at 312 West Leuda Street Fort Worth, Texas 76104, not far from Harris Methodist.
Good luck and let us all know what happens! :)

I do not have experience with fertility treatments...but, I do have a wonderful doctor. She is very open to new ideas and has always been supportive of my alternative approaches for my health. The very first time I had an appointment with her, she sat down with me in her office for about 30 minutes just to talk and get to know me and what I was looking for. I have never in my 32 years been to a doctor that was willing to take that kind of time. I live in Euless and I drive to downtown Dallas to her office because I am so impressed by her. I do hope you will meet with her and hopefully she will be able to help you. Good luck!

After years of not being able to conceive, I used the ClearBlue Easy Fertility Monitor and figured out that I was ovulating 10 days later than normal ... but would have never known without that little machine! Its about $150 to buy it and you will spend at least $45 for the first box of test strips - but i have 2 babies to prove that it works. My first child was conceived the 2nd month I used it. And My second child was conceived on the 1st month we used it.

If you are looking for a good doctor - I totally recommend Dr. Robert Milstein in Dallas. He is at Medical City Hospital in Dallas. I live in Lantana and was happy to make the drive to him with both of our babies :)

Best of luck ot you!

I highly suggest you go to a fertility dr. Dr. James Douglas is who I use. It's not scary and he is very straight forward. There are so many things that can cause infertility each month: follicles produced, follicle size, lining thickness, timing of ovulation, timing of intercourse, etc... On top of that are emotional factors (stress), physical changes in your body (weight gain/loss, uterus changes), chemical changes in your body as we all age. It took me 10 years, 3 M/Cs, and multiple surgeries to get pregnant with my daughter... it took Dr. Douglas (http://www.ivfplano.com/) 3 months to get me there. No I did not do IVF or IUI. They tracked my cycles and we got pregnant.

I have a blood clot issue that does not show up on blood test. I have to take heparin shots daily when pregnant to maintain the pregnancy.

I will warn against the office of Dr. Doody. I was with that fertility dr for 4 years (5 M/C) and believe one of the surgeries performed on me was unnecessary.

GL! If you need any more information, give me a shout.

Hi,
My OB is AMAZING!! He worked diligently with my sister to help her conceive. They did use hormones, but he also had her charting her info. I think he would be very knowledgeable about what you are going through. I believe he is also a fertility specialist, so if it comes to that, you wouldn't have to go to yet another doctor. He is very friendly and professional! His office is in Lewisville, and there is one in Flower Mound. I can't say enough how wonderful he is! His name is Rudy Tovar, and the office in North Texas OBGYN.

Good Luck,
A.

If you don't mind traveling over to Plano, Dr. Katrina Walsh is absolutely fantastic. ###-###-####. We had issues and had to go on to a reproductive endocrinologist but she is my regular OB and I can't say enough about her. My guess would be that she would start off with blood tests. She will listen to you.

ETA: One person mentioned Dr. Douglas in Plano. He is who we finally ended up with and he is wonderful as well. If Dr. Walsh can't help you she will refer you to him. He uses Plano Presby ARTS and I really can't say enough about them.
