I have a two-week old baby, and I am looking for a local group of moms -- particularly those that breastfeed. My husband works second shift, and I am really eager to get out of the house. I don't know anyone esle who breastfeeds, and I would really welcome the interation with other women.

What can I do next?

Hi M.,

Every Wednesday Morning at 11 AM, there is a breast feeding group that meets in Chandler at the Morrison Building next door to Chandler Regional Hospital. It is a great way to meet other moms. From Frye and Dobson, head east on Frye two blocks. The Morrison building is on the South side of the road and has a blue roof. You can't miss it,

Also, every 1st and 2nd Tuesday of the month there is a moms group that meets there as well. Not everyone breastfeeds, but a majority seem to.

I also go to Doris Christiansen's group. She has it on Tuesdays at one location and on Thursdays at another. See which one is closer to you. I personally have only attended the Tuesday group, but it's really a nice way to get out of the house and be somewhere where there are other moms and babies. It's also nice to go somewhere where you can breastfeed easily. Her website gives the addresses and times. Hope to see you sometime! http://www.pump-n-go.com/moms%20group.htm

I would look into la leche league, they have groups you can join who breastfeed in your town.
Good for you! Stick with it! I still nurse my 15v month old girl!

I see that Doris comes highly recommended! She was very helpful! Our baby was just born on Aug 26, so our babies are the same age & so are we, I'm 34 also. We will be going to our 1st group this coming Tues, unless we sleep through like we did last week. Hope to see you there! Sara

Here's a good club in North Mesa that I've been to. It is a breastfeeding group for Mom's with kids up to the age of 1. I really had a good time and she always teaches us something when we are there. The lady's name in charge is Doris Christensen.

Doris (pump-n-go.com) is the best thing that has ever happened to us! Her knowledge is incredible, you can ask her anything and get a straight answer. This is so wonderful as a new parent. I don't know what I would've done without the bf-ing support all of these months. We go on Tuesdays, would love to see you there! Good luck, and congratulations on breastfeeding, it's one of the best things I could do for my baby. Good luck!

I would definitely give La Leche League a try. Each group usually has two types of meetings: ones especially for information, which are open to everyone, and ones for "core moms" who have already attended all four informational meetings and want to talk about a wider range of subjects. Many women attend both meetings each month, and sometimes time moms form playgroups for their older kids.

Each group has a library of books that members can check out, and the groups talk about all kinds of things: food and cooking, raising older kids, health care, etc.

Go to http://www.lalecheleague.com and they will have listings for a local group for you.

I went to Doris Christiansen's group (lactation consultant). Pump-n-go.com, she welcomes anyone. She has a topic each time and then just hanging out so it is good if you only have one baby (at home with you).

There is a group at the Banner Gateway hospital that meets at 10:00 every Thursday. It is run by a lactation consultant who is very helpful with any questions you may have. It is a very relaxed and informal group. It is open to anyone. This group was truly a lifesaver for me!!!

There was one in Gilbert awhile ago, that I'd found through La Leche. But another resource is to see if BestFed is still in business. It's a maternity/newborn store and was great at helping new moms. They usually know of clubs around. They were at Alma School and baseline, SE corner. Phone is ###-###-####. Good luck and congratulations on your little blessing!
