Since going back to work part time after having my second daughter I was forced to give up the health insurance my work offered. I currently have independant insurance but it does not cover maternity. I am wondering if anyone has independent insurance that covers maternity. Any suggestion is very much appreciated!
When I was in the same situation, I researched all plans and found Kaiser to be one that was relatively inexpensive and it covered maternity as an individual. The only drawback is that you give up the right to use a broader network of physicians and hospitals. Good luck!!
What about your husband's insurance? Or, you can do an independent Kaiser coverage and it covers maternity... just a thought..
Medacaid. CHIP. I know, I know, there are sooo many people that have to swallow pride when it comes to asking for state aid. But, wouldnt' you do anything for your unborn baby/ children? Also call Baby Your Baby Hotline (800) 826-9662.
Also, you may not qualify for Medacaid at this point, but you can always reapply and the will go back for the last 60 days. But, I recommend you start with the above number. They are great with all the resourceful tips you need. Be open. Be honest. And take care!
PS Although some families are "over the limit" typically for Medacaid a woman may qualify while she is pregnant and for 2 months following.

I work in the medical field, and I am also "uninsurable" (whatever that means!) If you want to have an additional child, I think it is reprehensible to obtain Medicaid simply for the sake of having it pay for you to have a baby. Those funds are meant to help individuals who have no means of obtaining any coverage at all. If you have been DENIED health insurance, then COver Colorado has to cover you, with no preexisting conditions. You may find, however, that you are better off paying out of pocket for your maternity care, and staying with your current insurance.

My friend is in a similar situation and she has Kaiser for her insurance and they cover maternity.
Medicaid will cover pregnancy, you can go to any planned parenthood location to get it.
You can get on rider insurance, you have seen the AFLAC commercials. It has worked great for people in my family. If you want a name and number, let me know. I know a guy that strictly does supplemental insurance.
My Friend had to look around too and she only found one... I believe it was either United Health Care or Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield.

I have Blue Cross Blue shield and they covered me and my son. It sucks on him now though. It has a limit on how much they will pay out each year on him so that is it's only down fall.
Medicaid will cover the entire pregnancy. I had it to cover my pregnancy because I was in a similar situation
Have you checked out Kaiser? A friend of mine had to self-insure and had her son while she was insured through Kaiser.

J.. I saw your posting. Goldenrule insurance is very good. I had it when I had my daughter because my employer didnt offer health insurance. A good website to search for insurance is www.insweb.com. You can search through all different kinds of coverages and get instant quotes. I used to work for a doctor doing medical billing, and I would highly recommend their site. That is how I found my Goldenrule coverage. Their site also tells you the specifics of the policy, like whether it covers pregnancy, before you buy.

Not that you haven't gotten a lot of great suggestions already, but I'm in a similar situation, and I'll pass on what I have learned... First of all, it depends on what state you are in. Different companies offer different plans in different states. I'm in Colorado, and I believe the only two companies that offered independent insurance that covered maternity were United Health Care and Blue Cross Blue Shield. The way I found those was to search on eHealthInsurance.com. Their advanced search option allows you to further limit your seach by options like maternity, drug coverage, HSA accounts, etc. The most important thing that no one has mentioned yet is that each company has its own rules on how long you have to own the policy before they will start covering maternity. The waiting period can range anywhere from 6 months to 2 years! It's even faster and easier to find out these things by calling their customer service number.
