Olivenhain demographics/things to do

We will be moving to Olivenhain in June and I am trying to find out if this is a community of families in our age range (35-40 with young kids) or if it is an older demographic? Any input on this? Is this considered to be a family friendly community? Are there moms groups, activities, etc.?
Any info you can offer would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Okay, no replies yet. Is there a way to post this so that only those in the Encinitas or San Diego area can see it?!?! It quickly gets lost amongst the posts.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I cannot figure out how to post replies to all of you who answered my post so I'll just do an update. Actually, when several of you replied, we were out in Olivenhain looking at houses and the area!! We really did love it, and I appreciate all of the feedback that you offered, from generally favorable comments to more specific information. I hope you guys can see this post and I hope that we will be moving out there in June! Thanks again.

You will love the Encinitas area! Moonlight Beach is a popular destination for families and so are the many parks and places to hang out with other families. Consider O.P as your elementary school -great school environment. Volunteer at your kids' school and you will find instant-friends. Welcome to beautiful Noth San Diego County!

I live in Encinitas and love it! We stay very involved in family/kid friendly activities- and we are just a few minutes from there. I know a few families with kids there and they have never complained or even mentioned that it isn't kid-friendly. Good luck!

M.,

I previously replied to your reply and have never seen anything back from you. I think Mamapedia has messed up delivery because they sent an e-mail saying I had a reply from you but there is not one in the inbox. If you replied can you try to send another version of it.
Was wondering where you have looked. I told you all about the neighborhoods in the area. Did you get that reply?

M., I live in Olivenhain and have for 21 years. It's a beautiful quiet community with all ranges of families. If you have kids you will surely meet other in your range through school. If you are moving in from Encinitas you won't be far from the circle you already have either. Olivenhain is spread out so depending on where your moving into, you may not see your neighbors as much. Where abouts will you be moving to?

Hi,

Although I do not live there myself, I just interviewed a young family in Olivenhain as they are needing an au pair for their twins. It is a very beautiful and upscale area (right by Rancho Sante Fe). I would certainly call it family friendly!

Please contact me if you should have more questions!

I spent my entire childhood there. Of course things have changed a bit but the heart of Olivenhain was that it was horse country. The community has many horse trails that weave throughout. I haven't been back there for a while but the last time I was there I noticed that many of the horse corrals have been replaced with swimming pools and tennis courts.

I love the country feel there. I spent my childhood outside climbing trees, hiking through the sage brush, and swinging over the ponds hidden throughout.

I think I had a good education. It is my understanding now there is a good elementary school there. I don't think you can go wrong with a move to Olivenhain.

The Encinitas community is great for kids too. There are a variety of pre-schools for you to choose from using a variety of teaching styles to the commonly know Montessori to the lesser known Waldorf. The community is very aware of being eco-friendly and there are many shops that sell eco-friendly items.

If you love eating healthy, I recommend you going to Ky's located on the 101 south of the campgrounds.

I now live inland, but I continue to drive my family all the way to Encinitas to enjoy the beaches there. You can't beat Moonlight beach. It is extremely child friendly. It has a fun playground and the lifeguards have their main tower there year round. Moonlight beach has a fantastic snack bar as well (run by my friends).

I am excited for you. You will love this move!

Hi,
I live in the town next to Olivenhain (Encinitas). I wanted to give my 2 cents since you have not had any responses yet. I work with an MD who lives in Olivenhain with his wife and young children. It is a very small community and there are lots of things for little ones in the area. You didnt say where you are moving from but some of the very close things to do are: Beach, Legoland, San Diego bontanical gardens-has childrens area as well as the usual places like everywhere--YMCA, Parent Connection-play groups for all area moms and age groups, dance studios, gyms etc. I can ask my co-worker what he thinks about your question but Im sure he would respond positively. It is a higher priced area and that dictates some of the demographic, but it is definitely not considered and "old age" community that I have ever heard. Let me know if you have any other specific things that would help. I dont live there but we are very close. Good luck MJB

Hi M. -
I love Olivenhain & also work here (I'm a real estate agent, but don't let that scare you! LOL)
I would be happy to help you with areas where families live & things to do. I'm not sure how to touch base with details, but maybe the Mamapedia email would work, or you could call me if you're comfortable with that?
Hope to hear from you soon.
- K.
