Hi Mama's!
My husband just found out that he is going to WDW for a business trip, so we figured why not extend the trip into a family VK. So it's coming up in May and we haven't told the kids yet. The last time we went was in 2008! They are now 8 years old.

Once we have all the plans settled we want to some how surprise them with this trip! I was thinking of maybe giving them a big gift box to open and have the tickets inside??? Or something?

We will definetly video tape their reaction. They are going to be so excited! Only bad thing is we have to pull them out of school the last week of school, but they'll be back at least the last two days to say their good byes :)

Thanks for any great ideas :)

What can I do next?

There's a board game about Disney Land, you could have them play that and say the winner gets to open the envelope which would say it.

But honestly I like the whole NOT telling them, just getting on the plane, and until you actually pull up there it's a secret and you guys aren't telling.

I had heard of getting a phone call from Mickey to announce a trip. Here's a link:

Of course, my husband and I dream of the day we tell our kids to pack and get in the car and just see how long it takes them to figure out where we're going. There's a scene in Family Guy where Peter takes Stewie to Disney World and when he realizes where they are going, he bounces around the inside of the car like a pinball. It was awesome! :-) But there is also the thing of allowing them the opportunity to enjoy a sense of antic...................................................

Why not get some Mickey pajamas and put them on their bed?

When we went to Disney we bought disney themed pj's and made sure our daughter wore them to bed the night before the trip and told her something about dreaming of Princesses. My husband woke her up when it was time to leave and told her that dream was coming true...she was going to meet the princesses...NOW. I too had everything ready to go. So we got her dressed and headed to the airport!

If funds are not an issue then Disney world will leave a present in the room for the kids.

Get a small bag for each of them (carry on for airplane). Have a few Disney Paraphanelia in them. Maybe a map of the parks, Name and Address of the hotel (if it's on site), and even an itenirary. They are 8 so they will understand it. Include a stuffed version of their favorite Disney Character. Have Fun!

I'm doing this same thing but in October! These are ideas I'm brainstorming:

1: Leaving little "hidden mickey's" all over the house.
2: Pretend we are getting ready for school in the morning but really, we are driving to the airport (of course, the flight times would have to match up). My kids would be so confused it would be hilarious!
3: Give each child a small gift bag with "airplane stuff" in inside. As they pull the items out, each is Mickey themed in some way.
4: Keep it a secret till the morning of, make them mickey shaped pancakes and leave a small gift at each table to announce you are leaving that day.

Have fun on your trip!

When we go to Disney it will be the first time. We will not be telling our kids anything about a vacation until we are underway. We won't tell them where we are going until they see it for the first time. I will videi that for sure.

You don't say how you will be arriving ... so ...

When I did this for my youngest son a few years ago - I had all the plans, etc done while I was at work and sent to me there or to my PO Box that he couldn't get to w/o me1 He knew nothing - and didn't catch me packing bags and hiding them the nite before. It didn't dawn on him the dog wasn't in the backyard when he got home, so it was good to go! Had my parents show up to take us to the airport, but since we snuck OUR bags into their trunk, we told him we were taking them to the airport! LOL! He had no idea as we had done that a few times before!

Imagine his surprise when we go to the trunk and he see the bags WE use - hehehe - then is confused about what is up! Had no clue until the ticket agent mentioned Orlando! I t hink he flew higher than the plane!
