Dh and I are hitting a rough patch and both want to see someone good but I hate to randomly call up doctors without some kind of recommendation. We could travel anywhere in town for a worthwile doctor, but we live north/central. We have a 3 yo and he has been weird lately and we had a few fights before it came out that he is ...again...just feeling like we married young and doesn't get why he just isn't happy with all the great things he has in life. Good job, wife, doting child....he actually wants MORE KIDS but is still kinda wishy washy about things and wants mroe and more time to himself lately. He isn't cheating, but has been unfaithful in the past (not physicially, but it was enough for me).

He feels he has an issue with being selfish (ya think?) and i know we both have issues we can work on. PLEASE anyone have a good recommednation?????

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

So What Happened?

THANKS EVERYONE for your quick replies. TURNS OUT my insurance does NOT cover family counseling but does do individual. We are looking into one other option and were not able to get a hold of anyone through our church. I am catholic and we do have a service there, but it looks like it is for those prepping for marriage, but I am going to call and find out more. I tried multiple times today and yesterday but have not had anyone answer yet. I hope for better luck MONDAY! If that isn't doable, then we will probably do the individual counseling. I have read the book mentioned several years back when we had issues before but maybe i'll read it again and have dh read something similar. I appreciate all the great responses and suggestions and hope we are able to find some help very soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thanks for everything! :) Some of you will be getting private messages from me soon!

Jewish Family Services provides counseling on a sliding scale, I believe. They would also know of other lower cost counseling providers. And they are just north of Castle Hills. Good luck!

I would suggest checking out the Jewish community center. You do not have to be Jewish (I'm not) and my family has always used them for all our counseling needs because the have a (very affordable) a sliding scale and may even provide childcare while you are there. I don't have any specific names but my last therapist there was Catholic (not that any religious discussions took place) and everyone I've worked with over there has always been super kind and professional. Good luck.

I used to share office space with some wonderful Christian counselors! I would recommend them! Ginger Gray or Kelly Zetner are located behind Alamo Cafe off of 281 and Bitters. Their office address is 14400 Northbrook, Suite 200. Sorry, I don't have their numbers right now, but can try to find them for you if you need me to.

Hope this is helpful. We will lift you all up in prayer. Remember, Satan seeks to lie, steal and destroy. Christ is the rock we all need to stand on! PRAY, PRAY, PRAY and lift your husband, marriage and family up to Him. He is more than capable of overcoming all things. He already has, in fact! (smile!)

You could also check with your church to see if they offer counseling. Some offer it for free. Our church, Harvest Fellowship, has counseling available but I'm not sure if there's a fee. www.harvestfellowship.org

Blessings and love in Christ,

You might want to call BCBS and see what they will cover. You could call the employeer as well to see what is covered before going to any couseling. A lot of times BCBS will not cover this type of visit unless it is considered a mental health issue involving a therapist or psychiatrist and even then it is very limited on the number of visits. See if you can obtain a summary of benefits from whom you have BCBS with it will give you more information on what is covered or there is an 800 number on the back of your card...call that and inquire to see what is covered. If you get and automated line..keep pressing 0 it will send you to a live person.

Dear T.,
Wow, 10 years. That is great and I believe you will have "ten folds" of years! The both of you are on the right path. In other words, you and your husband recognize together that there are some issues that need to be resolved. Do you and your family belong to a church? Often times, churches provide counseling at no cost and they have groups where married couples fellowship together in addition to getting sound counsel. It's a thought. I do agree with the last message that was written to you. Call BC/BS and see what your benefits are for counseling. You will have to ask for mental health because they classify any type of counseling under that category. Another suggestion for you is to go and buy a book called "The Five Love Languages." It teaches each partner what their love language is. I recommended it to another mom several days ago. Here is a website on the book, but of course you can purchase it pretty much anywhere. For now and actually for always, it's a one day at a time kind of thing. Hold on to hope and be encourage! Blessings and favor your way. http://www.fivelovelanguages.com/

First and foremost, I think you should not be calling your husband immature, seems like both of you need some growing up to do and not just him. Name calling is a big no facture in a marriage, I just perceived it that way on how you wrote "He is a good man, but I think he's immature and so on" & also "I am hoping we can grow together and he can grow up some in the process". I understand that you are both going through a rough time but I think you should look at this as a whole and not just put it all on your husband. It takes two in a marriage and both of ya'll have to be willing to give a 100%, giving only half or so will not work. My husband and I sought marriage counseling and it was very difficult at first because my husband thought that "counseling" is the next step to divorce but low and behold 1 year later we are happily married, may not be a perfect marriage but it's enough for us to fight to stay together. I did not have any recommendations for the marriage counselor we sought, we just went by her credentials and both felt comfortable enough to go with her. You can search through your insurance holder and get several counselors and start calling them and usually for me, if they answer the phone wanting to hear what you have to say and not just by saying, well let me get you an appt. right away and not listening to me will determine if I feel comfortable or not. It's not the only way I determine but it helps if the counselor and their office is friendly. Do research on the internet and read about different counselors so you can get an idea of what you are looking for. Also, having God in our lives really made a change. It doesn't matter what religion you are but I think without God in your marriage, it felt like we were lost and doing our own thing. We have 2 children that look up to us and us as parents have to set the example. If you have a church that you can go to is another idea. Don't be ashamed, there are tons of people that are going through the same thing that you are. I hope you & your husband find the happiness that you both deserve. Blessings!
