Hi Mommas,
I'm looking for a pedi for our 2 year old, and also for a soon-to-arrive newborn. We want someone who will support tandem nursing and other parenting decisions we have made. Does anyone use a doc in FW who will really listen and offer guidance in areas that may not be the norm? Thanks so much for your time and help!!

What can I do next?

I don't know about the areas not in the norm thing. But we just moved to Fort Worth ourselves and had to find a new pedi, after leaving ones we really liked. Our daycare provider (she has 2 kids also) recommended our new dr to us. We like her a lot, and she really listens (or at least seems to). She even takes time to talk to my very outgoing 8 year old and answer his questions. Her name is Dr. Natterer and she is part of the Cooks Children's Network. We go to the downtown office, and I've been really pleased with her. Their number is ###-###-####.

I live in FW, but I go to a pedi in Arlington, Dr. Sharon Dennis. I do this, because she is very knowledgable about alternatives to such things as antibiotics. She understands my desire to avoid unnecessary medication. She is an Osteopath and she used to be a midwife.

One of the biggest issues you might encounter, if it is important to you, will be the vaccination schedule. When I called around, I found no physicians in the Cook's Childrens network that would deviate from the mandated schedule. I have heard from other people that it is a requirement of the hospital that all their doctors adhere strictly to that schedule. Dr. Dennis is more flexible in this area.

I hope this helps.

I've been in fort Worth for a year, after living the military life. I have a soon to be 2 year old he and his sisters that are 11 and 17 are seen by Dr. Kim Mangham, she is also part of the Cook's Children network. These doctors seem to very knowledgeable, and are willing to go above and beyond to help you with anything you may need. Good Luck.

I second Dr.Natterer! I have worked at the hospital that she has priveleges at for years and think she's great. She would be my first choice if I changed pediatricians. Also, thumbs up for you on your decision to tandem nurse! Good luck in your search and best of luck with your new baby.
