I am looking for day camps in the PDX area for a six and seven/eight year old for the summer. I would like to hear from parents with personal experience either good or the ones I should maybe steer clear of.

Thanks in advance for your answers!!!

What can I do next?

My kids go to spotlight all-star cheer in Troutdale Oregon. They held a spring break camp, that my kids LOVED!!!! I know that they are holding two different summer camps this summer. The first one is at the end of June, the second one is in July. I hope this helps!

Hello ~

I run a small activities camp for a week in June and a week in July. I am a School Counselor and my partner in the camp is a Speech Pathologist. We are both licensed and have all the background checks. The focus is on healthy, educational activities. (eg MAX trip to the art museum, healthy cooking class). Fee is $200 a week, which includes activities fees and lunch and snack. For more info: ____@____.com

The Eastside, Laurelhurst, and Montavilla Community Centers have many daycamps to choose from at very reasonable prices. They are fun and the kids seem to be well supervised. They have camps for 4-6yr old and 6 - up. The Laurelhurst Center is a Dance Studio. Check it out at Portland Parks and Recreation.

Hi K.! I highly recommend Fine Art Starts. There are two summer camps, one in Oregon City and one in Multnomah. The teachers are very experienced, and the kids learn wonderful things including how to express themselves through art. You can find schecules at www.fineartstarts.com

Godd luck with your wonderful kids!

Love the Oregon College of Art and Craft "Art Adventures" camp. It's great for kids who both like being outside and exercising their creativity. I haven't sent my child there (he's 10 months) but I work there as a teacher and look forward to sending my baby when I no longer work there.

My granddaughter goes to the YMCA after school care program at Laurelhurst Grade School. In the summer she spend the entire summer at their day camps. You can register for one week or all weeks. It's less expensive than private summer camps. I can't find my rate sheet.

Each week has a different theme. They go on field trips to such places as Washington Co Fair, the beach, Camp Collins. They also bowl and go to the swimming pool.

The staff at Laurelhurst is very good with the children. The children are well supervised. Parents can volunteer to go with the children on field trips. Discipline is called Think Time. good behavior is awarded with YMCA bucks which can be used to buy trinkets. They have art projects, reading time, play games both indoor and outside. During this quarter some of the kids are using professional clay to mold what they choose.

My granddaughter wants to go and is disappointed if her mother plans something else to do, even if it's just for a day.

You can learn about the YMCA and their programs by googling YMCA portland oregon.

my daughter has been going to Camp Tilikum since 1st grade, she's now a 5th grader. It's only for 1 week out of the summer but she and all of her friends love it. It is a christian based camp and teaches a great message and I find the kids love the songs, games, swimming etc.

Most churches in the area are assigned 1 week in the summer and they bus them in but I believe you can also register your kids for a week and drive them. It's outside of Newberg about 40 minutes away from Sherwood.

Countryside Church has the week of June 16-20 and St Francis Catholic church has a week in August. You don't have to be a member of the churches to go with them, they usually open it up to the parish first then to anyone else if there are left over spots.
