I haven't had a pap smear done in over a year and really need to get checked out but with no insurance I can't afford out of pocket expence to go see an OBGYN... I was just wondering anyone knows of a clinic I can go to that will work with me on payments I really am worried about the pressure I am having.... Or if some can offer me some advice that has also had this problem?

What can I do next?

I have heard of JPS its off Brown Trail. You can apply and see a dr. with a $5 or $10 copay. I'm not sure the phone # but I know its off of that street.

Take Care And Good Luck!!!!!

There is a credit card called Care Credit that will allow you to see a host of clinic physicians. If another credit card is not an option, go to the emergency room. They can not turn you away...they HAVE TO treat you. When you get your insurance, make it known that you have claims in the past thirty days. Another option is to contact someone from Medicaid and let them know of the pain. They will give you temporary insurance or find a free clinic for you. Hope this helps!

S.,
I don't have a doctor recommendation but I do know that with many doctors, if you tell them that you do not have insurance or are self-pay, then they will code their diagnosis differently and many will charge you a deeply discounted price.
When I was pregnant with my last child I was using independent insurance (not with a group) that did not cover maternity. I told my OB and the hospital I delivered that I was self pay for the prenatal care and delivery. My doctor gave me a 30% discount on my bill and the hospital gave me a 70% discount on the delivery. I figure it doesn't hurt to ask.
Hope that helps!

Planned parenthood is the best place to go if you don't have insurance and also the Emergency room. They have to treat you at the emergency and they can send you a bill later. As some one else stated when you do get your insurance make sure you let them know (or call them now) that you have a recent claim to add and they can pick up the bill for you. Maybe if you call them now they can fax something over to you so that you can go to the doctor immediately. Not sure what area is the best for you but once you do get your insurance my OBGYN is the best her name is Dana Snell (they actually have 3 great doctors in her office) she is located in North Richland Hills in the hosptial called North Hills Hospital on Booth Calloway. Look it up online. Maybe when you can the insurance company they can fax you a card and you may be able to get in immediately. Hope this helps....btw I'm from Memphis, TN as well...

I don't know how you feel about going here, but you can at least check it out now for your safety's sake, and then go to a better clinic after 30 days when your insurance starts up.

It sounds as if you need to get checked out without delay. You may not like this recommendation, but here goes. I would go to Parkland the County Hospital. I would go to the OB/GYN Clinic and be checked out. They will set you up on a health plan and then you can use a clinic in the surrounding area. It will not cost much, just a small co-payment. Give them a call and see what happens.

I went to the Planned Parenthood in Bedford(on corner of Central Dr and Harwood, by Chase bank, in a strip mall) for a while before I got my insurance. They were pretty good. I mean, obviously you may not have the same doctor-patient relationship that you would with a regular OB, but they were kind, professional, and clean. I *think* their exams are about $80. It's been a little over a year since I went there though.

I can't offer you any advice about what may be happening. But I definitely think it warrants seeing a doctor about. Good luck and hope this helps.

Also, I totally agree with the poster about the JPS clinic, but it does take a bit of time to get an appointment(at their convenience), and get approved. Their process seems to be very much like applying for Medicaid or food stamps.
