Looking for Advice About Pain Before a Period

Hi everyone. I recently asked a question about magnetic therapy bracelets but after further research decided not go to that route. I have endometriosis and have terrible pain a week before a period. It is not so much cramping that bothers me. I get pain in my lower back, hips, and pelvis and that is terrible. I've had surgery a few times for the endometeriosis but I don't think that this pain is related. I didn't have pain in my hips and pelvic bones until after the birth of my youngest he is 18 months old. I am currently not taking any birth controle because we have decided to start trying for number 3. I am just looking for advice or ways to help with the pain until I get pregnant. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the advice. I did end up purchasing and inexpensive bracelet I'm not sure how much it is doing or if it is helping because I have also started going to the chiropractor and am feeling a little better. I'll know in a week or so when I usually get the worst pain during my cycle how much it is helping.

You might try a chiropractor - they do much more good than just for the lower back. Plus, being aligned and in good balance will help you deal with pain better all over, maybe even easing your symptoms a bit. I don't have endometriosis but I get awful PMS and visits to the chiro help ease some of the aches and pains I get before my period. I also have heard great things about holistic doctors like homeopaths to help with a variety of issues... might be worth a shot or worth looking into. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

I had endemetriosis and I am sorry to say it just got worse and worse as time went by. Ibuprofen and aspirin helped some, but my understanding of the illness is that it internal, and while it shows up in back and hip and pelvic pain, treating it with chiropractic methods don't really do much. Obviously they make a difference for some people, so perhaps you might give it a try. The only thing that solved it for me was a hysterectomy. It was done early enough so that I only had my uterus removed, and kept my ovaries, so did not have to take hormone treatment. The longer it goes, the worse it gets, and it spreads. One of my friends had it spread to outside her bowels and that caused a lot of pain before and after surgery. You probably don't want to hear this, but I would have your third child as soon as possible. You are lucky to have two, but I know what it means to want another. Good luck. I hope everything works out for you and that you don't remain in pain for too long.

Hi Rachel, I also have endometriosis, and what worked for me was regular visits to my chiropractor usually once a month prior to my period. I never took any of the drugs they wanted me to take, I try to stay OFF meds as much as possible. Everyone's pain is different with endometriosis. Maybe going on the pill for a few months will help you, then go off and hopefully you'll get pregnant soon. Good luck to you. C.

I also had terrible pain a few days before and during my periods. I had surgery for endometriosis that didn't help at all. I tried accupuncture and it worked! I was amazed at how well and highly recommend it.

Hi Rachel!
I as well have pain before period and the cramps I can handle but like you mentioned it's lower back and pelvis area.I don't even let the pain get bad..as soon as i feel discomfort I take motrin, the trick for me is not to let it get bad enough so I will take motrin and alternate with tylenol...this is of course if i know it's going to be one of those days.

Good Luck and i hope you feel better!

Mild yoga helps me some, as does starting pain relief (tylenol/ibuprofen) early.

Have you looked into acupuncture? Acupuncture is a great way to control pain. I'm not sure where you're located but you can ask around or check on www.nccaom.com to find a licensed acupuncturist.

hi rachel,
i feel your pain. literally. i have found that taking ibuprofen the day or two before my period starts helps a lot, i am not sure if it would help a week before, but if you can pinpoint the day that the pain starts, i think it might help to have the ibuprofen "on board" beforehand. i also have used calcium/magnesium supplements which have greatly reduced the cramping and related painful symptoms...good luck!

I know tons of women who have had fabulous and life-changing results with all kinds of women's issues (from painful periods to PMS to endometriosis to menopause/night sweats) from great nutritional products from Reliv. They are perfectly balanced, and highly absorbable (95% and up) and use the best quality ingredients. There is a whole family of products for basic nutrition as well as special problems (heart, joints, muscles, digestion, etc.) - you could try the basic program and then add the women's product if needed. The products are totally safe and have absolutely no warning labels - a baby could eat an entire container and never have to see the doctor! You can't even say that about children's vitamins you buy at the store. It's totally safe as a prenatal too, so you can stay on it if you decide to get pregnant again. If you haven't heard of Reliv, you will after Saturday when a major new product is coming out which is going to make medical and nutrition history. Many of the products are patented (not easy to do), the company has been around for 20 years and has been very well written up by business magazines and health experts. I'd love to share more and tell you how you can get more info from women who have used it successfully. Let me know! There is hope for your pain.

sounds like pain when you ovulate. I sometimes get little twinges of pain at that time, but not severe like you - I feel for you. Ask your doctor what he/she recommends for the pain. Good luck
