I need a daycare ASAP in the Houston Heights or Garden Oaks area. Any suggestions?
I have called a few place but everyone seems full.
My daughter is 9 mo old.

Also, any sugestions on what to look for in a day care - I'm a first time mom. :)

go to www.dfps.state.tx.us and search texas child care, search day care, fill in preference, age range, zip code(s)most convenient for you. when the list comes up you can click on the name for more info about that place/person, you can click on the inspection dates to get details regarding violations. also check your local greensheet in the childcare section. good luck.

S., I don't know about the Heights area. I have heard 1st Baptist is really good. they are located at I10 and 610. still is close for you. I have also heard of a church on pecore street. don't know about their daycare options. now is the time to be looking as they are taking applications. If you miss enrollment period you will be subject to a waiting list.
good luck.

Hi, I live in the Heights and send my kids to Trinity Lutheran Childrens Center and really like it. They might be full but I plan to take my 11 mo. daughter out soon. Good luck

S.,

Hi, it is always helpful for me to go to the child protective servicses web site and do a childcare search. You can put in the zip codes you want to search and look at day cares, in home childcare, everything.

Also what to look for, personally when I look at a daycare, I look at where they sleep (do they have there own crib?). I ask how long the teachers have been there b/c my daughter does not like new people all the time. I also ask if they have a sheet with how many diaper changes, what time she ate and little info that helps when you get homea tnight to tell what your chld may need. The most important thing to ask is how they discipline to make sure it is in line with how you want to raise your child. I prefer postitive reinforcement changing her attention to a new activity if she is not sharing or something. Whatever you believe, just choose a day care that makes you feel comfortable or you will get nothing done at work!
