My husband researched like crazy when I was pregnant and found a travel system that he was happy with/safe enough/practical enough for our baby.
It's the Graco Quattro system....on the Babies R Us website it looks like they have 3 different colors. Here's the link...
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000809O36/...

My son is 2 now and it's held up beautifully. It's very durable -- it's been to the State Fair 3 times, zoos, parks, hiking trails! You name it! And we still use the stroller everywhere. I had a Honda Civic before the car I have now and the stroller fit in the trunk of that little Honda Civic.
Good luck!

We shopped quite a bit for travel systems also, I finally decided that one of the larger Graco systems just wasn't going to work for me. I've got an Audi and figured out that it wasn't going to fit into the trunk too easily and it was just too heavy to deal with. Instead we went with the Graco version of the snap and go described earlier. I love it! Since it's Graco it fits with our Graco carrier, is lightweight and has a nice size basket. It was also priced at $50 and I'm sure it would work with any of the major carrier brands. If we hadn't gone with this we were than leaning towards a peg perego or combi system. While more expensive systems, they aren't as heavy and bulky as the more common ones. When we are out of the carrier and upgrade to the stroller we have a McLaren stroller.

Hello,
congratulations! first baby is always special! I have been using travel system since my boy was born 21 months ago. I highly recommend Graco light. It is durable so far and very light in weight. Also, I suggest that you go to the store and try each one and feel it yourself. Every system has different height and look for something that works the best for you.

I used a Graco travel system w/ both my kids (ages 4 & 2) and liked it well enough, although it cost a little more than I wanted, and no reasonably priced stroller has an attractive print. If you haven't already, I would HIGHLY recommend picking up a copy of a book called Baby Bargains. I didn't get one until my 2nd child, and could have saved a ton of money - they rate products, what you need, what you really don't.... very helpful.

We had a Jetta with our first child too - hope you have better luck. We ran out of space in the back seat really fast!

Good luck!

I used to work in a baby store called USA Baby, I am sure that you have heard of it. There is only really Babies R US and USA Baby. Anyways, so I used to sell strollers, cribs, car seats, etc. My favorite and one I found to be the most practical is the PEG PEREGO, it is a bit pricey, but it is small and can fold up like an umbrella stroller. Any kind of infant car seats are only going to last up to about 6-8 months, depending on your babies size and I wouldn't spend too much on that item. When your baby has outgrown that I would invest in a Britax, that is the most safe and practical item you will ever buy!!!! I have so much to say about these items. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask!!!! Also I reccomend that you go to USA Baby and ask for Jeff, he is the owner of the store and knows more about strollers and car seats that anyone else.

While it's not a true travel system, I can't recommend the Baby Trend Snap n Go enough. We used it with the Baby Trend infant seat, although any infant seat fits into the Snap n Go. The SnG is really just a frame, so it folds compactly, has a good parent tray, and has a great, large basket on the bottom. I was so sad to stop using that stroller when my daughter outgrew her infant seat! They're only $50, so you can spend a little time considering what you really want in a stroller for later, and get a good stroller that really works for an older baby and then, child, instead of an "ok" stroller that works for all ages.

As for an infant car seat, I highly, highly recommend getting a seat with a higher-than-average height and weight limit. When my daughter was born a year ago, most seats went to 25" and 20lbs, which would have only lasted us about 4 months. The Baby Trend LATCH-loc went to 29" and 22lbs, which accommodated her until nearly 8 months. By the time she switched out of her infant seat, she had enough control to sit up in a high chair or grocery cart, which was really important and handy. We liked the LATCH-loc, and found it was very simple to install.
