I just found out i was 6 week pregnant and am looking of a midwife that will deliver out of a hospital. This is my third child and want to do thing a little more natural but want the drugs available if wanted during. I would also be willing to see and ob-gyn that is open to acupuncture and herbs or other alternative medicine.
I strongly reccomend Diana Buckwalter with South Denver OBGYN, ###-###-####.I had an excellent experience with her helping deliver my twins in December 2007. She is a very posative person. She has so much compassion and is clearly doing what she belongs doing!

I used a CNM through the University of Utah Hospital. They work as one large group of midwives who all work together. They did a great job with the delivery of my son 5 months ago.

What you need is a nurse midwife or CNM. There are groups of them all over Utah Valley. They are RNs with specialized training (thus the certified part) and they work in connection with OB-GYNs. They deliver either in birthing centers (the only one I know of in Utah is in Sandy) or in hospitals.
In Utah Valley, there is a nurse midwife group located in American Fork. They deliver at American Fork Hospital or at Timp Hospital in Orem. There is also a midwife group for Orem Community Hospital. They are located just west of that hospital and they are wonderful (can you tell I used them and love them?).
Good luck!

I am not sure where you live but I used Mt. Timpanogas Women's Health and delivered at American Fork hospital. They were great. Phone # is ###-###-####.
A word of caution however, if you give yourself and out and think you may get the epidural you may not have the will power to follow through with natural child birth. You need to have your mind made up ahead of time because it is all about mind over matter. Good luck!

I delivered with Intermountain Nurse Midwifery with my last 2 pregnancies and they are wonderful. They did work out of LDS Hospital, but have now moved to the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. I think they are the best of both worlds because you get all the hands on care of a midwife, but should something go wrong, they are backed by neonatologists specializing in high-risk deliveries. They don't deliver at home, but if you are wanting to have drugs available, I don't think there is anyone who could administer an epidural in the home setting. (if they did, it would be both illegal and dangerous!) It is possible to have a natural, nurturing delivery in the hospital, you just have to make it clear to the hospital staff what you want from the beginning. I delivered all 3 of my babies drug-free and without complications, but it was comforting to know that if there was an emergency (where seconds count), the best Newborn Intensive Care in the state was just down the hallway! Hope this helps. My favorite midwife in the group was DeeDee Fedorchak CNM, she is awesome!

Check out alpinewomenshealthcare.com---this is one of their CNMs and I like her. The group delivers at Swedish and their offices are right next door in the medical bldg. I don't know if she does deliveries out of the home or not but perhaps she could clue you in to some that do.

I had all 4 of mine with CNM's and loved it! They deliver in hospitals but watch you closer and are with you to labor a lot more than an OB. I am about to have my 5th in 2 months and this will be my 3rd natural birth with hypnobirthing. I'm not against epiderals but once I am far enough to get one, I deliver so fast I don't get to enjoy it. SO, if you're interested in trying natural childbirth, look into it. www.hypnobirthing.com !! I healed faster and was completely alert and calm, especially the last delivery. Best wishes!

Depending on where you live you can always go to http://www.acnm.org/find.cfm to get a list of different types of midwives in your area. If you're in the Colorado Springs area I had Sharon Ruyak, whose a Certified Nurse Midwife from Colorado Springs Ob/Gyn deliver my daughter at the hospital and she was absoultely wonderful. Plus Dr. Baer, especially and Dr. Liehr are both wonderful OB's who are great for natural oriented mamas. Best of Luck and congrats!!

You're looking for a nurse midwife. They have relationships with doctors and are required to do deliveries in a hospital.
But bear in mind, you'll have a much more "medical' and "conventional" experience than with a direct entry midwife (and a home birth). Think MED-wife.
Blessings,
M.

If I read your email correctly, you want a midwife out of the hospital who can use drugs for pain relief. I do not know of anyone who does this but just being at home, in a familiar environment can be very relaxing. Home birth is an incredible experience (I have had two) and there are many natural ways of releiving pain. Water (showers, baths, birth tub), massage, breathing ++. I suggest you do research. Talk to home birth midwifes, the initial consultation is free (Sena Johnson at www.denvermidwife.com was mine and is phenomenal). Good Luck

The University of Colorado Hospital- Fitzsimons campus (in Aurora) has an incredible midwife group. They have a new birthing center with all the hospital ammenities. I delivered my daughter there (naturally) 11 months ago, and it was a beautiful experience. If that's too far away for you, most hospitals have a group of midwives who deliver babies there. UCH does water births, and you'll just have to ask whereever you are, because several places do have that, among other things. Good luck!

You probably already found a midwife by now. I'm not sure where you live, but your profile says Denver and you seem to be getting responses from Utah.
I'm 18 weeks pregnant and we're going through the Exempla Nurse Midwives at St. Joseph's Hospital. Where in Denver are you located? Are you familiar to all the different hospitals in Denver? St. Joseph's is right next to Presbyterian St. Lukes.

In Rexburg, there is Targhee Women's Center. They have both OBGYNs and Midwives. I've only seen one of the OBYGNs for a yearly, but I really liked the whole staff. My friend had her baby at the Rexburg hospital with the help of one of Midwives and loved her. I've heard other good things about them too.

I just love my midwife.. Her name is Julie Jones and her office is in Murray.. so it might be a bit of a drive, but I think it is worth it. She delivers at the new hospital - IMC on 5300 S just off of the freeway. Sometimes it's hard to get into her cause she has a lot of people wanting her, but it's good to try. If she doesn't have too many clients due when you are, then she will take you. It might be good to call her now if you are only 6 weeks. :)
She is very friendly, she answers questions thoroughly and explains everything you need to know. She really takes time with you during her appointments. I feel like she really took care of me when I had complications in my first labor, thus we avoided a c section. Good luck in your search!

Hello C.,
I had both of my children with a midwife. My experience is that most licensed nurse midwives work with a physician and through a hospital. Here is a link to a website where you can do a search for midwives in your area:
http://birthpartners.com/?gclid=CKWXtMDo7JECFT00FQodi2aExQ
There are many other sites on the internet with helpful information on natural childbirth. Many hospitals now have rooms set aside for natural childbirth. Maybe your local hospital can recommend a midwife to you that works through their facility.
Best of luck to you.
