Looking for a Kitchen to Cook In..

I make homemade chicken tacos (like taquitos) and what started out as an item I would bring to parties has been a dinner request from my neighbors. I started makeing them for a neighbor on a regular basis - then to another neighbor who heard about them and now word is really spreading. I am making 100 or more a week and I want to get a food license - but the county says I have to cook in a commercial kitchen. It cannot be the one I use at home for my family .Does anyone know of a caterer that might let me rent their kitchen? The county says I can also ask a local church. I still have not really joined one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I love what I do and would hate to stop just b/c I can't afford to finish a kitchen in my basement or afford retail space.

I have a client (I sell Arbonne - if you might be interested in a sample, let me know) who uses a kitchen over by the Oberweiss down Randall road in Aurora. Where do you live? I could help and if she is okay about it, give her your name and number or you call her. She and a friend started selling toffee and is doing really well. I also have a some friends who own their own restuarant/deli that may be interested in renting time to help pay their rent. Don't know. You can call me if you wish and we can brain storm a bit. There are many of those places like Dinners by Design that may be willing to sublet some kitchen time to you. The economy may be hurting their business. This might be a way of getting yours started, while helping then ride out the storm. Also many churches don't care if you are a member or not, they want their buildings to be useful as much as possible, especially older ones that may have seen a decline in membership due to an aging congregation. Your donation for use may help them pay the heat or light bill or keep their music director.

M.,

Wow, those chicken tacos must be yummy! I just wanted to say I admire you for looking at other ways to keep doing something you love to do.

It's outside of my area of experience, but I just happened to think - is there a Moose Lodge near you? It's very inexpensive to join (Women of the Moose - WOTM) and most have a big kitchen where the women volunteer to cook for various events. You might have to end up cooking your special tacos for them too though :-) Just wanted to share my idea.

Here's their website if you want to check it out.

I don't know what town you live in, but there is a kitchen that exists that does just that. You'd have to contact them to find out what they charge.

Jeff Jones is the name of the owner. They are located on South Washington in Naperville. ( The strip mall on the corner of Washington and 87th) They have all the commmercial needs met at this location I believe they charge by the hour. IF that is the case, you cold build that cost into the cost of your product.

The name of the place is called Two Kitchens.
In addition to renting out commercial cooking space, they also have classes and guest chefs for "cooking" school

I don't know their number off hand, but you can google them if the location would work for you.

Little Blessings pre school which is also a chuch does do this, but the woman does donate a small portion of her earings back to the church.

The church is great and has a ton of kids activites, camps, pre school, kindergarden, scrapbook weekends and two really fun pastors!!

I don't have their number off the top of my head, but you can google it. It is in Naperville off of Book and 104th.
