I was given for our baby shower a few cds of music, the Drew's famous, and they were in my opinion awful renditions. I am looking for good sound, great songs, does anyone have an opinion? Thank you.

David Grover and the Big Bear Band is a Berkshire County, MA musical group that is a cross between James Taylor, Peter, Paul and Mary and Mr. Rogers. He's so much fun to watch, even as an adult, and his music is positive and educational. You can buy CD's at www.davidgrover.com.

My 20-month-old also loves the rhythms and beats of Disney's Choo Choo Soul and loves to clap and sing to the music.

Congratulations and have a blessed day!

John Lithgow's "Singing in the Bathtub" is great. The tunes are good and the words are clever. (I love to give that one as a baby shower gift). Also - my savior has been Bare Nacked Ladies - "Snacktime" - adult music with kid words. Might be a bit much for a 9 month old - but by the age of 3 or 4 it would be terrific.

They Might Be Giants have great children's cds. Here come the 123s and another about the ABCs. Really fun stuff. I also recommend going to the library and borrowing cds. Also, there are the Rockabye baby! Lullaby renditions of different bands, good stuff.

These aren't nursery rhymes, but my dd loves them:

any Raffi songs
"Family Favorites" by music together
"Snacktime" - Barenaked Ladies (parents will love this too)
"Philadelphia Chickens" - Sandra Boynton

I have the one mentioned early by TMBG, but I found it too much for my daughter before she was about 14 months old, but each kid is different.

I am a musician and therefore super picky about the music I listen to. WE make kids cds which I noticed someone else already mentioned, but in the interest of not being totally self-promoting, I will share with you my other very favorites.

Dan Zanes and friends are my absolute favorite kids music. All of his cds are great. Catch that Train might be my favorite. You can listen to stuff on itunes to get an idea of the sound.

They Might be Giants is fun, but not as relaxing. More clever and rocking. They are brilliant and delightful. I love Here Come the ABCs best.

Elizabeth Mitchell makes gorgeous cds for kids. They are quieter and sweeter and maybe more appropriate for a 9 month old than TMBG. SHe also made a cd with Lisa Loeb that is quite lovely, Catch the Moon I think it is called.

My son loved James Taylor's greatest hits. Just remember to mute before Steamroller!

I'm from the Nields. We've made 2 cds for families. All Together SInging in the Kitchen and Rock All Day/ Rock All Night. The second one is a double cd. One of up tempos for dancing to or driving to and one of lullabyes for coaxing the little ones to sleep.

A lot of kids enjoy the Beatles too. Don't settle for music that you don't love. There is no reason to listen to annoying, cloying music. Your child will probably end up loving what you love. Enjoy the search!

Hi T.,

My kids (now 2.5 and 5) love the music on the CDs from the Music Together classes.

http://www.musictogetheraroundthetowns.com/

Both kids liked the classes (even when as young as 9 months), and the music on the CDs offer such a variety that I don't get tired of hearing them over and over. The quality of the music is better than on a lot of kids CDS. There is a Family Favorites CD you can order without taking the classes which I recommend!

We also like the new album Rock all Day, Rock all night by the Nields, and I find myself and my kids singing the words to the songs even when we don't have the CD in.

Raffi is also a hit.

Good luck!

D.

If your in the Burlington area the Fletcher Free Library has a great kids CD section that will allow you to check out a few at a time. (If not check out your local library) It's a great way to get variety and find out what your child likes without spending a fortune.

I really like Elizabeth Mitchell "You are my Sunshine" CD. She also has other CDs "You are my little bird, flower" which I have not heard. They are not nursery rhymes per se, but are great for driving in the car (and won't drive you crazy. Good luck.

T.,

I think this is a matter of preference. I have a few different type and the gymboree tape I have I like but I think it is more for me than my daughter yet a friend of mine loves that CD. We tend to listen to more of a kiddie style of music and my friend wants it to be more of an adult style of music.
We have a few fisher price CD's and a few CD's that came with a book. I know you can listen to music from the CD's in Babies R Us and Target also has that option. I don't have any but I have seen 'parents' CD's in Target.
Maybe see if any of your mom friends have CD's you can borrow and copy. This is what we have been doing and it has saved us a lot of money.

Good luck,
L. M

Try checking out the CD's at your local library and listen to them for free until you find one that suits your personal taste!

We have lots of CD's that I like and my kids could not care less about - so try lots before you spend money on something new! Or offer to swap with other moms in your new mom group!

Oooo!!! I have THE best nursery rhyme CD. I am not sure if anyone has written about it yet.. (I read the question and was too excited to read many of the other posts) We recived a CD as a gift for my son, and it includes his name in each of the rhymes... for instance... it begins with "Bennett, we're gonna have a good good time, going over nursery rhymes..." and they say his name in every song. He LOVES it. Let me do some research and find out where they got it( I know it was purchased online)

Kenny Loggins made a great lullaby Cd for his son. Has the Pooh Corner song on it plus some old favorites, like Kermit's song and All the Pretty Ponies.
