Have fun with it~ it was a wonderful experience and my dd is so much more verbal because she communicated, really communicated, by age 1! (Can you imagine a 1 year old with a 25 word vocab- including, Please and Thank You?)

Try signingtime.com. We have through volume 10 and our 2.5 year old son knows about 500+ signs, to date. He's hearing so we're just doing this as a second language. It's got kids that sign, Rachel that does the sign from an adult coordinated perspective and they show pictures of the item that they're signing. It's not boring and our son loves them!

Signing time!!! We absolutely love it!!!

A friend gave us "My Baby Can Talk" and we loved it. My daughter is 5 now and still occasionally asks to watch it. Signing is so much fun - you're going to love teaching it and using it with your son! Good luck.

we found Baby Einstein's First signs video with Marley Marlin to be a great help. In addition to the main feature there are featurettes that give you opposites, and one that gives you family words , and one of little puppet scenes that are enjoyable.

A friend of mine uses Signing Time. My son likes it when he's at her house- and my friend's daughter loves it and is very good with signing. Check it out!

I can not rave enough about the Signing Time DVD collection! It is fantastic - they are a bit expensive ($19 or so) and you can only by them from the website, signingtime.com. But they are soooo worth it! We bought them for my daughter (now 22months) and she loved them. It is great because the signs are clear and it has children making the signs. They also use a lot of song and play in the video - my husband and I found ourselves singing the songs randomly throughout the day. I would start with the first signs video. Let me know if you want more info and which DVDs....

I dont know of any videos but if you go to the library they should have a bunch you can try out before you buy one.

Hi, I've been using the 'My Baby Can Talk' series by baby hands with my son since he was about four months old. He loves the dvds, and has learned about 30 signs. I definitely think it has moved his verbal skills along, too. He is 18 months now and asks for the dvd all the time. He even remembers the orders that the signs are presented in. The dvds are structured to use multiple images of the sign; for example, they show a real cat, a stuffed animal cat, several different toys that are cats. There is a woman that signs the sign for cat, a child demonstrates the sign, and the narrator repeats the word and gives a brief explanation of the sign. It is set to classical music. There are three dvds. You can find good descriptions at my www.mybabycantalk.com. From 3/26-4/30 there is a buy one, get one free offer on the dvds at Babies R Us and Toys R Us. Good luck!

We have the Baby Einstein signing video. Our son loves it and he has learned a few signs from it. The key is watching it with them so you can reinforce the signs in daily life.

We started Signing Time with my son when he was about 9 months old. He is now 5 and my daughter almost 2 and they both love the videos still. They are really easy to learn the signs from. The way they present them also helps promote speech development with the repetition of both word and sign. They have a lot of music to them and the video is all of other little kids. They are fabulous. You can get them on Amazon but I prefer to order them directly from signingtime.com. The family that produces the videos runs a foundation for special needs that does a lot of great work and I prefer all the money go right to them instead of amazon getting a cut. My local library also carries a few of these videos if you want to try them first check that. I know they offer a "Baby Signs" video now that they did not have when my son was little. I believe these are a little more cartoony but I could be wrong. We started with Volume One "My First Signs" and I do not see a need to go to something more baby -- at 9 months old this was perfect for my son. They also offer books and flashcards. The flashcards are great. heavy duty, plastic coated, and on a big plastic ring. These are my daughter's favorite bedtime story and they have helped her a lot! I would suggest the music cds that go with them as well -- they are awesome!

I also agree that Signing Time is really good. Our local library had some of the videos, but I ended up buying them b/c we watched them so much. I like the ones for ages 1 and up b/c they can be watched until ages 7 or so. Where the cartoon Baby Signing Time is for birth and up, but I just didn't like it as much. I didn't know sign language before these videos, but now I know the same signs as my son b/c Rachel (the teacher) goes over them for the kids and the adults.

We used Sign With Your Baby by Joseph Garcia, it's a book and CD. It's ASL rather than made up signs for babies. It wasn't a problem that she couldn't do them exactly right, we all knew what she meant.

I've watched Signing Times, it used to be on the RI PBS. It's cute and I might use it now to teach DD but when she was younger we didn't do any screen time so that didn't work for us.

My 20 mo old is amazing with sign language. She is now at kindergarten level in signing time. It is a great way to communicate, so congratulations on your decision to teach it!!! The one we started with was Baby Einstein First Signs. It was AWESOME!!! You both will watch it again and again. I like it better than the sign time first one. You will be blown away at how quick he will pick it up. Keep up the good work!!

We watched several different videos and I felt that the Signing Time DVDs were by far the best. They have many to choose from, but I would start with volume 1 of the Signing Time or else volume 1 and 2 of Baby Signing Time (they are done by the same people). The other volumes have a little more advanced signs that are a bit difficult for a child under the age of 1 to do because of the motor skills needed (in my opinion). Our son loved watching these, as they are done to song, have alot of repetition, are simple and have children doing the signs as well. You could probably find them at a local library if you want to check them out before buying from the website. I learned alot of signs myself by watching them, which was great so that I could reinforce the signs with my son as we did daily activities. Good luck!

I just borrowed Signing Time, Vol. 1 from our library. I used it a little too late with our first, but it is really pleasant and fun to watch. My sister in law really loved it with her two. There is a little music in it, and lots of footage of little ones using the signs. Good luck!

I found that its better and the catch on easier if you use simple signs along w/ simple words. My 2 year old gets speech and he does much better w/ a sign and a word said to him. If its time to eat sign eat and say eat, or ask him if he wants more and sign more as you say more. They have a lot of simple baby sign books out there you can purchase. I just think they are better than the videos.
