I'm looking for a non faith based preschool or MDO for my son. It seems that a majority if them are with churches, so any ideas would be great. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi A.,

This is C. Cox from Fit Mamas. I have heard marvelous things about the Acorn school on Broadway. I did not search the website for a MDO specific program, but they are known for preschool and kindergarten. See the website at www.theacornschool.net.
Take care!

C.

My kids have done MDO at Rainbow Station, which is on Sonterra in the Stone Oak area. It is terrific and fun. They go on lots of field trips and have so many great activities and the teachers are wonderful.

My kids are now 17 and 13 and I was like you when they were little in trying to find a non-church related school. We found Discovery School and LOVED IT. Both my kids have wonderful memories during their time there. Give them a call, they are the BEST.

THE CIRCLE SCHOOL!!! we are soooooooo happy. My daughter loves it (she hated montessori). She feels loved and accepted. All the kids do. It is very small and parents are expected to participate a great deal. www.circleschool.org I think is their website. If not, google it. you do have to apply early but it is the best place on earth.

I have used a church based preschool also, so I can't help, however I will say that these preschools really don't teach religion. The children learn very general bible stories and say grace before eating. I went outside the church based preschool (for 9 months) at one time and was not happy. Good luck!

Hi A.,
sorry for the later reply but I also have to recommend the Acorn school. It is an educational nursery school, non-profit. They except children at least 2 years and 9 months old and continue through Kindergarten. They have wonderful teachers, one for every 5 or 6 children. My daughter who is 4 loves her school. If you would consider this place, call them now and they will invite you for a tour - best way to see for yourself. The earlier you call them, the better chance you have for getting in.

Tel. ###-###-####, Rich Lange and Jo Mrvichin are the directors, the nicest people I know.

Great day and good luck!
L.

Faith-based Christian schools offer so much more than "religion". The basic principles of community and democracy are taught in a loving manner and the teachings of Christ are central. Whether Jew, Christian, Muslim or Agnostic...who couldn't benefit from the teachings of The loving Christ? It is the foundation for benevolence and ethical living. My advice, give a good Christian-based school a try and see if your child flourishes and thrives under the teachings of teachers, many who are like you and me, mothers themselves, who want to teach from a spirit of love and acceptance for ALL people. Should you be interested, I know of a couple of GREAT faith-based Day Schools. I would be happy to get you in contact with them, just reply back to me. My oldest daughter (3 yrs old) is blossoming in one that I believe is superlative!

All the best to you in your search and I'm wishing you and yours many blessings...T.

It doesn't seem like there is a lot out there huh? We also are trying to avoid a faith based school. The only MDO I have found is at The Discovery School. The Circle School is non faith based as well but they start at three.
