I am seeking some creative ideas for non-candy Easter basket fillers. We also like to keep out the cheap plastic toys and media related items. I just wondered if anyone has some new ideas that we could share. Thanks.

I love the small craft things at AC Moore; the little projects that come all sold in one kit pretty cheap! They sell tem with an Easter theme or just sometimes a car, truck, snowflake or something like that. I also like the foam shapes (we just did one the other day that is a snowflake) from AC Moore and you can decorate it any way you would like-glitter glue, markers, stickers etc. You can buy so many fun crafts there- my kids love their stuff!
I am not sure how strict you are on plastic toys and media items but Target always has an awesome Easter isle as well. I got my boys the Thomas the train Easter pack; 4 Easter decorated tains! They also had Monster trucks (another fav. here!)
You could also buy them something fun for outside; jump rope, sidewalk chalk, a sand bucket, sun glasses, bubbles etc!

Hope some of my ideas help you or someone else and Happy Easter!!!

If you're looking for religious themes you could put in a cross, as I mentioned, a trip to a Copley Square church

I have two boys 6 and 8...

good luck

Hi S.,

My 5 yr old son Jack doesn't eat solid food due to a sensory processing disorder. ( He is making progress though! ) So I've always made his Easter basket with coloring books, crayons, the little foam projects from ACMoore and books. He also likes little trucks, stuffed animals,flashcards,bubbles, puzzles,etc. It's a challenge but a fun one! Good luck and I hope this helps.

Hi S.;
I am now almost 54 and have a 30 year old daughter who is about to have her first and my first grandchild and an almost 16 year old son. It was candy for her always and still. Yes I still make her a basket every year. My son, as a toddler, would go to the fridge for a snack and come out with an apple, grapes, orange, tangerine, pear, carrots, cucumbers and such. The other parents hated me. If you offered him a candy bar in one hand and a tangerine or such in the other he ALWAYS opted for the fruit or vegie. So, therefore, his Easter Basket was made up of these things and a small can of nuts and of course a small toy like a new match box car to add to his collection, or stuffed animal. He couldn't wait to dig in and he still feels the same today, although he does like to find a bag of skittles in there now. Compared to what the other kids eat, I'm more than willing to put in the skittles. Good Luck and try it with any other child that you may give to at Easter, their parents WILL appreciate it. Take Care and Happy Easter A.

Check out the Therapro website for great sensory toys and gadgets that are both fun and educational! I think they're listed on this site-they might be under special needs autism but have 'stuff" for everyone!

How about craft items so they can make things themselves? Joann's or Michael's should have inexpensive things like foam, wooden birdhouses, etc.

Happy crafting!
