who did you use, your experience and how recently you moved?
About 3 years ago we moved to our current home and used a moving company for the first time ever. We used 2 Guys and a Truck. They were fantastic and did a great job. The final price was actually lower than the original quote which was a happy surprise. I had done a lot of research and was really concerned about the horror stories I had read about many companies. I was very pleased with this company.
I used All my sons moving. We did not really have a good experience with them. We were supposed to have 3 guys and they were supposed to be at my house at noon. at 2 we started calling. they finally showed up at 4 and they were already tired from another big move. they only showed with 2 guys. they moved all the big stuff but then said they had to get going or they couldn't get it done at the other end. and no they would not go to our storage sheds to get that stuff. the whole reason we asked for 3 guys was to speed this along. sigh.....cost us $600 bucks they didn't get done till 10pm and we only got 3/4 of our stuff moved. so not happy with them.
We have used Kolovitz movers( oak park) they were great!! Our friends have used them a few times as well! They have been around forever!!

Do not use Bekins. DO NOT USE BEKINS!!! We had a huge claim with them, they actually defaced our worktable and poured coke or a caustic sustance down one of my antique dressers. My husband sent nasty letters to the Marines about them. They drew picturees on his worktable. Broke numerous glass pieces.
J&K was alright, they lost a ladder.
Mayflower was alright, not as careful as North American
North American was very good, they were very careful with my antiques, adn one of the guys helped me learn how to deal with subsequent moves.
Allied was very good, the driver paid out of pocket to fix my antique sewing machine to keep me from having to make a claim, he paid more than what the sewing machine was worth.
Try to do a door to door. If not and you need to have your belongings stored, then have them crate all your things at your door.
We've moved 8 times in 18 years, once by ourselves. I can't remember who else we used. THe last move was a year ago.
I agree with Golan's...we have used them twice and were completely satisfied!
