Little Girl Body Odor

My daughter had a bath last night and today she was smelly. It is a typical b.o. smell under her arms, but is this typical for an almost-three year old? It's not the first time I've noticed it. I realize it is getting hotter and she is probably sweaty, but I've not noticed this with other kids before...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! I already use organic milk and she LOVES fruit. She doesn't get as many veggies, as she will still only eat those in baby food form. I called the dr. and she recommended trying new soap for now, and we'll monitor how that goes.

HI M.,

Good advice so far! Diet is very important and most odors are diet related. If your lifestyle will adjust easily, fruits and veggies are terribly important and also limiting sugars which also include bread and potatoes. Avoid processed foods and that includes ALL fast foods.

I would recommend an absorbable chewable multivitamin for her. My family takes a vitamin that is guaranteed to absorb. (Dodge the Flintstones and the generic at the drug stores. They are dangerous.) That will help with getting nutrition into her system and it will also build her immune system to the point that an occasional treat at Mickey Ds will not do as much damage.

Hope this helps!

Change the soap. Sometimes soap reacts poorly with the skin. It often leaves a residue on the skin that bacteria find delightful when mixed with the normal skin stuffs...a little frightening and suprising, eh?

Also, what she eats may be affecting her pH. Make sure she is getting plenty of vegetables and fresh fruits. Limit sugars if she eats them.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Ditch the regular milk and give her organic milk. My son was getting "funky" at around the age of 5. I switched and it has never once happened again. Seriously. Try it. You've nothing to lose but the stinkies!

The first question I would ask is; "is she over weight"? If she is, it is very normal because the over active growth hormone can ause a chemistry mix in the body and produces a little b.o. I would look at the soap you are using. SOme soaps do not mix well with natural body oils. Now do know if she is hitting a growth spurt, the adrenals become very active and then again can cause some b.o. So change your soap and just be a little cautious of her growth. In the meantime, go to a health food store. In the health & beauty section they have some deoderants that are just like a witch hazel. They are safe to use at this age. Good luck.
